What: Newbie Friendly Westridge/Sullivan Ride I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the week being half over. This is more of a social-fun-happy hour type ride. There is some climbing involved; however, if regroups are necessary, I'm 100% for them! NOBODY will be left behind! !!!!!! When: Wednesday, May 21. Meeting time at 6:00 P.M. Where: Queensferry and Bayless in Brentwood - Look for a new, bright blue BMW 3-series and a funny looking Asian guy next to it. I'll be riding either an Orange Soma Juice Singlespeed or a Pivot Mach 5. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/%5B2100...eles+CA+90049/ Route: -Climb Bayless and Westridge (paved and fireroad). FYI......the paved portion of the ride can be a pain in the @$$, but it's doable -From NIKE base at top of Westridge, continue west on Mullholland -Possible side trip through Farmer's -Down Sullivan Fireroad -Descend into and ride through Sullivan Canyon back to starting point We can also do the reverse........we can decide before the ride on Wednesday. Distance/Time: ~10-15 miles/1.5-2.0 hours Afterwards: Post-ride dinner? Questions? Feel free to IM (username: markjyee), PM, or call me at 310-493-6694. Thanks, Mark |

I also plan on doing some 'true' beginner rides.......ones you can bring your significant others and kids. Looking into because I've run into many people, including some lookers, who really want to try out the sport but are a little intimidated to do it on their own.

QUESTION: What would be an "IDEAL TIME" to begin these weekday rides? 5:30....6:00.....6:30pm?
It would be most appreciated if a few Westsider's responded to this question!!! Even if you can only attend one ride per month- chime-in with your opinions! ![]()

Are you still riding a blue-ish single speed? Quote:
5:30 or 6:00 would be ideal. Nice balance between work time and having enough daylight to get a good ride in. |

5 is usually good... I'm pretty flexible, sometimes I get out there 330-4 do a quick loop, then go back to work... sometimes I wait until I'm done and get there around 6. I usually play it by ear. I try to avoid finishing in the 5-630 range, because traffic heading home sux right about then.

I don't think we've yet seen anyone from STR come check it out. I think you'd all like it. Frankly, it would kind of a bummer if a separate west side Wednesday night ride started up. I've been trying to get some new faces into the ride as it is, without much luck. Now there might be two to chose from. I will probably stick with my crew. If there was a new ride on another day, like Tuesday or Thursday, I'd probably show up for it. The ride isn't showing up well in the calendar so here's a reminder link. I think your ride is geared towards slightly faster riders, so I think there is still room for 2 rides. Unless I'm interpreting your invite wrong and it's not geared towards faster pace?

Personally, for those that can make the time, it's worth at least checking it out once before setting up another West side ride. One good thing about this one is that a core group always meets for the ride. So even if some riders miss it from time to time, you can count on having riding partners, which is important when you're riding at night. By the way, today we have one of our rare travel days. It's going to corral cyn, backbone. |

I'll be there between 5 - 5:30, depending on 405 traffic.

I'll be riding either my Raw Intense 5.5 FRO or the Orange Soma Juice Single Speed. Looking forward to meeting you all later. I figure I'll get there at 5, and start riding at around 5:15 or so.
As for riding times, I'm pretty flexible right now. I currently the man of leisure (aside from some temp work). That will all change on June 2, when I'm back to the grind of Wall Street ![]() |
