In preparation for the Counting Coup Matt and I are planning this ride for next weekend 2/11. We are going to leave our cars with refilling supplies at the Maple Spring's parking lot and start there. We'll ride, Blackstar to the motorway. Then we'll be able to refill with liquids at the parking lot and then climb Maple all the way to the Peak. Then we'll just ride down Maple again and back to our cars. This way we get a ride that is just about the same distance as the Counting Coup, but with no shuttle needed.
We'll need an early start, so I think it will have to be by 7 a.m. |

Huh?

We might have to cancel this, I doubt we'll be able to ride Blackstar due to fires.
Maybe we'll join one the San Juan groups this weekend.... |

the smoke looks like it's getting blown in a south-southwest to southwest direction. which would mean it might be out of the way if you do a modified training ride in the same area. For example: Up Harding to 4 corners from 4 corners/main divide to Motorway down motorway then up maple springs to 4 corners then down Harding this would give you approx. 35 miles, not sure on the elevation but it would be substantial Just my 2 cents, guys; good luck on the training! ![]()

HJ to Trabuco might be good, but only if we go all the way up to Santiago Peak. Epic_Mtn_Biker's suggestion also sounds like a good training ride. It doesn't have any fun single track, but has plenty of climbing and I think that is what all of us need to work on. I think the best thing to do is wait till tommorow afternoon and see if the conditions change. What do you guys think? |
