Default Sat 5/3 9am Potato Mountain/Webb s/t

Meet at Towne just above Baseline in Claremont. We will ride 5 miles on pavement to the Palmer/Evey fireroad; climb Potato Mtn; descend into the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park (via fireroad). Depending on who shows up & how we feel, we can do a little foray into Marshall Canyon or not. But we will definitely end the ride with the Webb Canyon singletrack.

This will probably be a 15-20 mile ride.

FYI:
1) Potato Mtn is a strenuous climb (1000 feet in less than 2 miles)
2) Webb Canyon is some serious DH fun. I won't be doing any jumps, but they are there if you want to take them. While the trail can be ridden on any mountain-bike, you'll need to know your limits and be ready to ride within them. Not for total n00bs!

I just rode Palmer/Evey and they have smoothed it out. Big landslide rocks are gone and the ruts are, shall we say, minimized. Seems like good timing!

Since when has Webb been hush hush? Since the land owner found out about all the features last year and tore them down? Maybe since people been going out there and filming videos up the yang? Get over it. You can go on Goggle earth and put in webb canyon and it will fly you right there.

I think i've ridden potatoe mtn before. I wouldn't say I'm a total noob, but I can't say that I'm comfortable with 15-20mi. Do you think I should try?

Well, if you've done Potato Mtn before, you'll be fine. This ride is 12mi without the optional Marshall Canyon part. And the Potato part is the worst of the ride. It'll be mostly downhill from there.

In addition, there are a couple/three bail-out points.

My first response would have been:
I was not "comfortable" with 20mi when I did my first 20mi ride.

But then again, I wasn't uncomfortable enough to post about it, so I'm probably comparing apples and oranges.

But all in all, I think you'll do fine.
