where you guys meeting up? I might join you guys, I have to get a lot of miles in tomorrow so I will probably be doing a lot of climbing. If I am in the area at the right time I will atleast meet up with you guys to say hey. I was thinking of climbing Sam Merrill or starting up brown and going somewhere from there.

Don't think they're too much to elaborate on, just if your going west on the 210 take that exit and turn right. You'll probably end up going a mile and there will be a parking lot on the left hand side of the street. It'll be great to have another person for once haha

Hello, new guy here.

My brother-in-law and I saw the STR group @ Marshall by coincidence. Just out of curiosity, I did a web search and found that I had opened an account back in November.

By some strange coincidence we are going to El Prieto tomorrow. STR members must have ESP.

We'll be the slow guys pacing ourselves going up and walking part of if going down (we're newbies, after all).

If you see a Black EVO with a hitch rack, please feel free to say hello.

I will more than likely meet you guys there. If I am not there dont wait up for me. Once at the top of brown if you continue left (I think thats the ken burton trail), it keeps climbing, right? Doesn Ken burton Continue climbing or is that going back down?. It looks steep from the switchbacks shown on the topo map.

From the top of Brown Mtn. Ken Burton descends all the way to the Gabrielino trail, just above the oakwilde campground. It has 23 switchbacks, and last year we re-routed the bottom section so that it is all rideable. There's a few minor rises, but no climbs. From the Gabrielino, you'll have a lot of creek crossings and a few climbs, and a lot of technical sections to get back to JPL.

Headed out late. Met a few guys (and gals) along the trail. Did see the blue '82 Sub, but no one inside (parked on the street, right?). But a big congrats to someone making it to the saddle on her first ride (one of those we met on the way). I don't think I made it to the bridge my first time out.

Somehow, I must've hit something that sent me down 15 or so feet into the bushes on El Prieto. It took a rope for my brother in law to fish me and my bike out. No damage, just the normal bruises I get doing El P.

Glad you are alright, hope your not sensitive to Poison Oak. It would be hard to go off that trail and not end up in it.

If it's the spot I'm thinking of, there's a root sticking out of the wall on the right, hidden by some leaves. Many a rider have clipped their bars on that root and been sent over the side, me included. Glad you're OK.
