Default Orange Y BMX track

I'm planning on going to the Orange Y BMX track this Friday. All are welome to come. Practice and sign-ups are 5:30 to 7:30 on Fridays, and races begin shortly after registration closes. I get there at about 6:30ish.

Show up to practice on the track, or try your hand at racing too! It's a really low-pressure racing environment.

An ABA membership is required (although 30-day memberships are available).

If you don't have a BMX bike, mountain bikes are OK! (There are usually at least a couple mtbs out there.) All you need is a helmet (XC lid is OK, but full face helmets are nice). A long sleeve shirt and pants are required.

http://orangeybmx.com/

For those who don't know me, I'll be wearing an FB jersey (there are a few of them out there), and the number on my bike is #26.

helmet.. long pants.. long sleeves.... 26" bikes are fine....

If you have a fast rolling rear tire (lying around)- even better!

See you there...

The gear has already been covered again (thanks Dino!).

If you have a selection of mtbs to choose from, bring the one you can ride most aggressively (i.e., standing). If you only have one mtb, it's the best one to bring. Not that the track is technical, but there's a lot of stand-up sprinting.

About 10 years ago, there were a bunch of us regulars who brough regular XC bikes - some with suspension, and some without. We had lots of fun - that's what it's all about. In time, you may figure out what works best for you on the track.

Tempting! My GF's kids love to bike but I do have some concerns. The daughter is 6 years old but is unable to ride without training wheels. The 8 year old son can ride without training wheels but needs practice. They have some exposure to the dirt but nothing like rolling bumps. My biggest concern for them is the whole peer pressure thing. They don't do well with crowds.

I completely understand about being a little scared at first for the little kids. First bring the kids to the track, and let them watch. They may be amazed to see how many 5 year olds there are out there and how well they go for it. At that point you can find out if they're interested. Later, you can take them out there a little earlier. If you note on the schedule http://orangeybmx.com/Pages/RaceTimes.asp they have a dedicated time for 10 and under practice. Sunday is a great day to get out there early, too. People love to cheer on the little tykes.

The couple times I've been out to the Bellflower track, there have been lots of young kids out there of varying abilities. I would imagine it's much the same at the Orange Y track.

Ken - Bring them! Maddie is still pretty shy, and rides with the adult company that comes with us. She's most comfortable when it's the 10 & under practice - they don't run the gates and the dads stand on the track next to the hills, and give a push if needed.

After 2 months of riding at the track she'll start with the gates up, she still is not racing, but sure loves to ride the track.

Bring them out - Maddie would love the company even if it is just to play around on the dirt mounds or sit in the stands. It may help all of them to feel more comfortable.

Here is a picture of her that Ricky took:

Traci, going to check with my GF this morning to verify if she has anything planned for her kids. What time is everyone getting there? Also, nobody is worried about catching their pants in the chain?
