Hi all, I'm a newb to the site, though I've been biking for a couple of years. Moved here from VA last year. Been trying to get back in shape the past couple of months, and got the GF a bike so we usually ride a few times a week after work. This seems like a fun way to meet some of you guys. We live in Santa Monica. You said it's not a newb ride, but how newb friendly is it? She's only been on the road so far. I have hit many a trail, though I went about 8 months without riding when I moved. If we fell behind we could always catch up, right? It sure sounds like fun. I haven't hit a trail since I moved here in September.

Come on out if you want to join us for a ride and beer/lunch. We will be moving at a decent pace, but it isn't anything crazy. I just wouldn't recommend anyone riding for the first time on this ride, but we're not hammering. It is 10 miles with about 1000 feet of climbing if I had to guess.

You don't have to ride to drink beer and eat cake. If you are free on Sat, come out Jeff. It would be great to see you.

As if anyone needed more of a reason to come, our very own Jslow (Josh) will be making an appearance for beers in the afternoon. It is unknown at the moment whether he will bring a Jumbo Jack and vodka or just eat our food.

Come on over.

Don't forget to bring lawn chairs peeps, otherwise you are likely to end up on the floor.

some spots are still overgrown, but a lot of trails have been cleared. I will ride up to 4 Corners on Wednesday and see how Raptor looks. I'd really like to go down Raptor, but when I was up there last week it was covered in mustard grass.

If we want to do some real huffin' and puffin', Skully Ridge is now mostly singletrack and the climb makes for some nice ridge running. Another option is ridge running Southridge to Brea and then do Northridge back, but that might be too much for this ride.

Trailhead to 4 corners and back is about 10 miles no matter how you slice it. If we add to it, we'll have that much more fun.

Talking Grasshopper Sam....

Rode there last week and rode a lot of the single track: Sidewinder, Aliso Canyon, etc... and felt like I'd been whipped with a cat 'o nine tails. I was picking mustard out of my teeth the rest of the day. Not a lot of fun! Unfortunately, I think we're going to have to stay on the fireroads unless a miracle happens in the meantime!

...Of course we could all drink beer before the ride and not care what the trail conditions were/are...

you might as well just drink the run off from a storm drain.

yeah, i've seen those trails from above and have not ventured onto them for fear of lashings. we'll play it by ear and see where folks wanna go.

Are we drinking before, during or after the ride...or all three? Just need to figure out how much to build up my tolerance and tweak my training regimen.
