Picked my packet up today and was relieved do see they changed the cutoff time to 12:00 at Four Corners and 1:30 to HJ.... This still makes the cutoff 1 hour earlier than last year...but much better (for me at least) than the two hour swing! I'll be in the back puffing along towards a Guinness at the end!

I noticed recently a water spigot at the top of Holy Jim. I wonder if riders are allowed to use that to fill up water before "the wall". Technically they are still "unsupported" since they are using what the terrain provides. |

I'd rather be climbing...

I think they've mentioned that the race will be supported. Water, CytoMax, apples & such at the checkpoints.
Getting nervous & excited all at once...

From what I understand, only at the 4 Corners Aid Station is where you can fill up. The other checkpoints will just have first aid and emergency water. |

The times have been adjusted. We originally lowered the cutoff at 4 Corners by 1 hr to 11:00. However we are also starting 1 hr (7am vs. 6am) later than last year. So the actual cutoff time was lowered 2 hrs by mistake. The Official cutoff that the riders are getting in their packets is 12:00 at 4 Corners and 1:30 at LHJ. This gives 5 hrs to get to 4 Corners and 1:30 to get to LHJ. |

I just moved back to California and with everything going on i have not had time to do rides of any length necessary for training for an event of this type. Therefore, likely I will bow out. I already paid for my place.
I don't think doing this event without having trainnig would be a good idea? I'm not "unfit" but this would be tough without any training other than the short rides i've been able to get in. I'm looking forward to being able to do rides during the week and then one or two long hard rides every weekend! Does anybody want to take my place? Edit: just read another post you can contact "cowgirl" (I think its Sherry) at Switchback cylery and tell her you're taking someones place or have me call her. You don't have to pay me back Last edited by Mtnbkrdr98; 05-10-2008 at 08:47 PM. Reason: more info |

I think I am going to be challenged by the cutoff times, so I did some planning. Since Cutoff #2 occurs at mile 29, with at most 6.5 hours allowed, this means I must average 4.5mph.
Virtual/Intermediate cutoffs are as follows: 7:00am: start 8:45am: gate at Beeks (7.7m) 10:30am: Silverado Motorway trailhead (15.7m) 11:50am: 4 corners, Aid station: (21.7m) 12:45pm at Santiago Peak (26m) 1:30pm at HJ cutoff (29m) Trabuco Trail (36.4m) Finish (46m) This is just to set some targets. There is a good piece of downhill after Santiago Peak which will help the average pace. |

Nice break down. 1:45 to get to Beeks ???? Remember climbing on the Main Divide is slower in many places.....especially after the Motorway. You might wanna push a little faster to Beeks place and back off on the Main Divide. Until you hit Santiago Peak, there really isn't that much DH to boost up your average speed. Just a thought. See you all the finish when you come through. ![]() |

I'm a FUN-GI!
|
I'm going slow and steady if anyone wants to hang back with me. I don't want to burn out, cramp up in the heat and not be able to finish.
