good luck guys and gals, I'll be riding up HJ and watch the race for a few.
As for the efficiency, having ridden the VQ on both HT and FS, the traverse is basically all fireroad except Upper HJ and Trabuco trail, so it's not that bad. and FWIW I had my FS locked out on the entire MD. so you really aren't gaining much comfort for the weight penalty. Ultimately the decision is yours, have fun and stay hydrated. |

Just picked up my Bento Box mini lunch container for my top tube. I am filling it with Wheat Fig Newtons.
Plus GU, plus 70oz camelback, plus Perpetuem in the bottle. My coworker decided to not ride after paying for the event and ended up giving his place to Tinker. I guess he lives close to him and they are buds. One thing is for sure, Tinker will have first choice of El Pollo Loco, and all the sides he wants. By the time the next guy rolls in, he'll be getting his third meal.

I'd rather be climbing...
|
Got my trusty Kona as dialed in as it'll ever be. Already got my nutrition & drink mixes set aside. Plate has already been hung on the front (#145). Sadly, a new set of tires on my wife's SUV meant that I couldn't get a new rear rim built before the race (flat spot).
I literally have nothing to do tonight except wait, slug down water, get more nervous & try to sleep... See ya'll in the morning! Is 6:15 a good time to arrive?

Sincere empathy to everyone running the Traverse tomorrow. Sometimes you pick a date and sometimes the date picks you. The weather is not your friend this time.
Good luck to all! Stay hydrated and safe.

HAWG: 100 oz water, 70 oz Accelerade, 2 spare tubes, CO2, hand pump, crash/First Aid kit, chain breaker, Shimano pins, multi tool, etc. Water bottle: 24 oz Nuun Bento Box: 6 gel packs, maybe some raisins Jersey pockets: 2 Clif bars, maybe some Clif Blocks ...trying to stay hydrated and keep stocked on vitamins and amino acids. Pasta tonight, oatmeal in the morning. I'm as ready as I can get at this point!

![]() I did it last year on a HT. This year I'll be on the Tribal with 4" of suspension which is 3 lbs heavier than my HT but way more comfortable on my back. I was going to go without a camelbak, but with the temps reaching 100 deg, I'll bring my 70oz and 2 bottles. 1 bottle just to pour over my head when it gets too hot! The other with Cytomax. Good luck to all. #159 |

The forecasts I've seen are calling for 91 degrees tomorrow. It will be 5-10 degrees cooler up on the divide with a 5-10 mph breeze.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
