hi, i just need some help to plan out a small chino hillls trip i want to make in the morning.
i wanted to try out the long fire road uphill, i think it is the north west side of park? i was wondering if anyone can help out with where i need to park, that would be best. may be an option for paid and unpaid parking? from what i can tell, telegraph canyon road is the actual fire road? or is it the road right north to it? (i am lookign at google maps with the terrain turned on) also, planning on doign it early morning, easy pace. (like newbie to trail, newbie to mountain biking pace...) if you want to join let me know... i wouldn't mind the company... |

i tried searching the STR also... nothing came up on "chino unridable" EDIT: i spelled the "unridable" wrong for the search... okay, i found it... it says the fire road is okay... i just wanted a nice up hill, and a simple long down hill to try out... seems okay for my needs? |

I can't join you but here's some info. Sounds like you want to do Telegraph Canyon (the most tame intro to the park). Not a bad choice. Park off of Lambert/Carbon Canyon on Brea Hills Drive (last left before park). You should be fine there. If you take Telegraph all the way to four corners and back its a good 8-9 miles. Telegraph is pretty tame for the most part. The hill routes on either side of telegraph (Northridge and Southridge) are pretty tough climbs. Take Telegraph in to four corners and it should be a blast. Have fun.
You can park at Carbon Canyon Regional Park for like $5-$10 if you want. Last edited by ChariotsOfTires; 03-30-2008 at 09:51 PM. Reason: You can park at Carbon Canyon Regional Park for like $5-$10 if you want. |

cool... i am thinking about trying out both? i am going to go easy, so i bet i might be able to do a look and ride down both sides?
jayman, thanks... works now... okay, so i got a better map... geared to biking... the main 2 trails i see off google was the ones i am interested in... they are called, north ridge and telegraph canyon fire roads... as per the warnign about unrideable... it doesn't relate to my plans to ride teh fire roads... one question, what is 4 corners... i don't see it on any map. is it where, north ridge, south ridge, raptor trail and telegraph meet? this is the map i found, good info... http://www.bikemapdude.com/chinomap.html |

OMG! i charged the battery, i took the charger and plugged it into where i put on my shoes! and i put the camera in my bag... and i forgot to take the stupid battery with me!!!!!!
anyways, it was a great ride! the constant up hill was a great workout. the landscape was lush, and the morning air was very crisp. i looked at the north ridge trail, and it was very slim... so i didn't take it. i stayed on the main telegraph trail and went about 7 miles in. basically past 2 park bench areas. the bike did well, but had some issues with the lockout switch turning when i was coming back... need to find a fix for that... the water crossings took my by surprise, cause there were so many. only 1 was a bit big, so i just carried the bike over... the others i just rode through slowly... over all a very nice ride. the brush has grown over 6 feet tall, so you have to be careful around corners. i did make it past that picture Gene posted... but i saw it like a forest! so i didn't recognize it at first. |
