I see I am not the only person that snapped a chain on Marine during the Jan. race. Broke on my lap lap. Grabbed the chain and pushed my way down to the finish. That last lap was brutal, Rain, Wind, in the Dark and broke a chain. oh yea, slip and sliding going into turns.

by skipping the full ambulance road climb you don't get to go to the top of Dragon which links some of the new stuff- I think that was bridges we were on near the bottom after a left hand turn on the ridge?- then you come out across from the marine corp climb so its the little loop around and up you go. The marlin ridge was alot of fun and thats before well before the ambulance climb so no worries on that. Just means the usual 3 "horseshoe" loops near the old start/finish area. I was excited to not have to keep going back and forth along that main road but whatever he decided I am riding ![]()

I know that Racer's and Chasers (the local race series) is now staging down there as well.[/quote]
The Pool area is actually a great place, we got rave reviews about that area. It has 3 pools and showers and bathrooms so it is awesome! I even added a new single track that connects strait over to the damn road from the sand pit, near the grass For the tent campers you are not that far away from the pool area where you currently are so it would probably work out great. I am sure you all will love it!!! |

Due to the change of the Start/Finish - Camping reservations can be moved (if you've already made them) from up top, down to the Oaks campground.
Tent camping will be allowed in the Oaks campground but will not be at a discounted rate. You can still tent camp up top for a discounted fee, and ride down to the venue. The difference between the 2 campgrounds is: Oaks has Shade provided by HUGE Oak trees, full hook-ups, is closer to the venue, much nicer and cleaner restrooms plus showers. Vail Lakes reasoning for not offering the premium sites at a discount is "these sites *would be* reserved by non-racing RV campers at full price even during event weekends" See everyone there ![]()

So, if you want to move, you should move into their section called The Oaks. Trees everywhere with plenty of shade and room, just as Traci mentioned above.
As of right now (Wed 5/14 at 1:20pm) the following sites are available at $70/night (no price break, as Traci also mentioned -- kind of a bummer, but there you go). Listed below in best order (IOW, 165 is better/closer than 164, etc.): 130 - 140 (right across from our gang of four sites 126-129) 165 - 152 170 - 172 129 - 126 TAKEN I did not ask after 168 and 169 -- these two are good locations (maybe even the best when you look at the site map), but from what I understand you may be in for a lot of traffic if you grab either of these... hth shud |

![]() Neil would kill me - He's been out cramping on the course, comes in he has no drinks ready, his sandi's aren't made, he asks where's Traci ? Oh she's in the pool swimming ![]() That would almost be as bad, as Neil coming in and finding his mechanics have had a little too much to drink ![]()

I don't want to jinx us or anything, but Accuweather says we'll have a high of 71 on Friday, June 13th.

D'oh! My wife would have words with you, dub. I am forever saying things like, "Look how little traffic there is!" I am such a dolt. I never learn. Welcome to the club.
![]() BRING OUT THE FLEEEEEECE!!! Should be a real good race day no matter what, even if it's a steamer (we'll make sure you are watered up for each loop, dude). I just wish I was well enough to ride and that Nam was well enough to ride. shud |

I'll throw a fleece jersey in the bag too. Since it's going to be so chilly, maybe even some Steppie Flannel as well.
I was hoping there would be an chance Nam would give it a go.

Actually -- speaking semi-seriously for a moment -- there is in fact the potential for it to get really cold in the desert after the sun goes down, even after a real hot day, so having some warm stuff certainly won't hurt to have around. If you don't ride with it, it can make a nice pillow.
Be prepared, right? shud |

It was about 65 or something last night when we left. Extremely windy, though!!
If it's under 95 on race day, I'll take it!! If it could be about 75 at noon, I'd be stoked ![]() BTW.. the new reroute around the loose section is interesting. It's got a few big dirt/sand holes. Makes the exit to the fire road crossing before the hill to the rock garden slower. It also is a *really* awkward entrance to the reroute. You're all going along at a good clip and WHAM. Slam on the brakes, turn up hill and try not to hit the piled rocks. The new singletrack down to the fire road to the finish line is also getting more and more sketchy. I nearly flew off the side of the hill both laps yesterday. |

Well here are the averages listed for race day.
Averages: Hi 91 F Lo 54 F Records: Hi 108 F Lo 42 F That new cutoff up top is kinda strange. I will take it over the super loose end section though. In the race I woulda been sure to go OTB at least once going into the later laps. The singletrack heading down to the pool is pretty nice...as allison said though, the end of it is kinda blown out. After further review of the weather...National weather service shows that around race day we should expect around near to normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. The strength of this prediction is a 4 out of 5 due to good agreement among forecast tools. Pretty neat..check the link HERE

No matter which of these dudes shows on race day all ya need is:
1) some funky tunes for rockin the course. Maybe something along these lines ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEyWm3UNK1Y 2) cold brew for the heat and long pit stops 3) a flask with a few shots of old faithful for the cold |
