Default Did you get the memo?

I got this emailed to me this morning. Anyone know the details?

We have recently made some changes to the June 14th race format. One of the changes has been switching the venue area. It is a great change that weve done and will benefit all of our races. The bad part is that some of you have already made camping reservations for the original venue. At this time you can still call Vail Lake Resort and switch your reservation for another. I youd like please tell the staff that you are with the race and would like to switch spots to one closer. Thanks for your support and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Crap. Guess we all need to call Isela (phone number in my post above about the campsites) and see what's up, eh?

I can only do 2 laps at most 3 but would be fun hanging out there. Is there a spot open on one of the 4 or 5 man team that is not aiming to win? Slacker here! I'll be riding my SS so......is there a slow SS team that need an extra body?

OR.......how about a team with all 6+ inch heavy bikes just for fun?

Default Update

I just spoke with Vera down at the resort (@ 866-824-5525). She didn't know any specifics about the change and asked me to call back tomorrow. She said the owner is coming in today to possibly finalize the venue change. She said something about it being down by the pool, but has no hard info at the moment.

I guess I will call again tomorrow and see what's up.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

I grabbed this from Jason's site just now:

5-12-2008 We have had to change the course a bit to accommodate the venue change. The new ridgeline singletrack will remain but we will not be going down the bridges trail. Instead we will be coming up the ambulance climb and turning down the infamous "Tunnel of Love" trail. After the tunnel we will cruis along Vics trail and the BMX track trail and on to the meadows and Marine Corp hill and home. Stay tuned for the trail map!

=====

Tunnel of Love is baaaaack!

=====

5-12-2008 Well a big update for the 2nd 2008 June 14th 12 Hours event. We are moving the event to another part of the resort. We will now be staging the event by the swimming pools and the Huck Finn pond. We have been trying to make this happen for a few years now. It is a great place to stage. We have easy access to the pools and the water slide. Campinig is not a problem. There are plenty of sites super close by. We will also have "JUICE IT UP" and "WETZEL PRETZELS" coming out to support!

====

Hm. Maybe I will call again now... but Vera did say he (owner) had not made any firm changes as yet...

I think the staging/start/finish area just moved from where they normally have it by the go-kart track sites up above to somewhere down below. The pool(s) are down a bit further. I've never been over there. Also makes it interesting... where is the start finish gonna be?

I emailed Jason yesterday to get info on the course changes but he didn't provide me much info back.

I was willing to do another route, but he didn't seem interested

Thanks for my 500th, dubjay!

Just got off the horn with Vera again... There seems to be an issue with moving -- specifically in regards to tenting it. Vera said they do not normally allow tents in The Oaks on busy weekends, and though the 13-14th is not currently all that busy, she expects it to get busy because of the race.

She asked for some time to talk to the owner and then she said she would call me back. Things are still a bit up in the air as we don't exactly know where Jason is going to put the course, as Allison mentioned.

Not specifically pointed to you, but does anyone happen to know why they are moving us away from the go-kart track and down to the pool? Facilities better and that's it?

Seems like they are changing a lot in a little time.

Also a heads-up once again... they are getting serious about charging. Supposed to be offering $50/year for bike usage.

Aiya. Okay, Shudd, Dubjay, Traci. Let's stay on top of this. PM me if you need to so we can get our campsites straightened out.

Thanks.

Will Thursday's ride follow the new course or old course?

Thumbs up

Not sure how this changes most of the course (should only be the start/finish) one thing I do know is, this is a good change! Neil said something about riding up a hill short hill at the start (?) We've done the 24hr GG and it's down at the pools so he's familiar with this start/finish. (maybe Neil or someone who's done the GG race could chime in)

The Start/Finish/Venue area will now be on grass, and the camping will be in trees (cooler if it's hot)!

Plus if it is HOT - Maddie can swim right next to where daddy will be racing

If you've done this race before, I think you'll be happy with the venue change, if you haven't just hope this is he keeps it from now on.

I've never been down there. May ask if we can park there instead of at the go-kart track on Thursday. I think I've seen the climb: it comes to the Dam climb fire road jaunt to the right, correct? As in.. if you are riding normally, it'll climb up to the right and intersect, but if you are climbing up from the pools you wind up merging left to the fire road that skirts the lake?

I believe you are correct. The little road skews off the fire road (lake road) and shoots down to the flats where the creek and pools are located. Not ridden down there, but it is a very small hill.

I think they'd let you park down there (I know there's parking at the pools), or you may just ride down and park up top. Just go back down the hill you drove up and go left at the 1st intersection, keep going straight until your at the end of the campsites (and a dead end) you'll take a right (instead of left and going up the hill) you won't be able to miss the pools and grassy area.

As for your other question - in reference to the trails - I have never rode the course (yet) so have no idea.I called Neil maybe he'll have a free min to give you info

No worries! Luke may know also. Or someone else that has more experience.

I know that Racer's and Chasers (the local race series) is now staging down there as well.

Cool. So it's basically a variant of the same old 12 hour course, but the transition area is on the grass like GG. It'll add maybe 2 minutes to lap times.

exactly!
Its a taxing 12 ft climb to the lower fireroad from the grassy pool area, then up a another 20ft climb to the main fireroad and onto the dam climb.
Allison, the way that we went down at the end to the Marine Corp climb- thanks Justin for the tip on how to clean that one!- is how the GG co
