I know some over 200lbs guys that ride harder and faster than many 150lb guys, you might be that one . My fitness will be good to go by June

I dunno...12 hours is gnarly for a guy that has avoided any and all cardio for the last 2 years. LOL! We'll see. I've been doing much better with exercising lately. I don't think I'll EVER be in "endurance athlete" shape, but I might be able to ride a respectable number of laps by the time June rolls around. It would be fun to try.

At any rate, I'm sure we'll have a good STR showing! If I end up not riding, I'd still be happy to "pit crew" (hand you beers as you come around each lap) for someone.

I am doing a 4-Man team this year for the series. Next year, I want to do either Solo or 2-man for the series.

It is a blast to be there. I hope that the STR jersey will be available by then.

I don't think they are a team anymore They camped across from us last year, we expected to see them @ the 24hrs of Moab being it's 4 hrs from home for them, they didn't show

All I know is those guys were smokin fast on SS and still running the fastest laps of anyone Best part is they'd come in from a lap and light a smoke , crazy stuff!

Registered Solo Clydesdale!

So how do "pits" work? I may only have 1 person coming to watch the race...would it be possible to share a pit with somebody for taking breaks, mechanicals, ehat have you? Let me know!

PS...why is this under Trailhead and not Racing?! :dunno:

Maybe the militia is all on their Mormon missions now.

Smoking hmmm, maybe they were hoping the nicotine would open up their lungs.

Like these old school TDF dudes.

Shoot, I should erase this. Some fool is going to try it and end up burning up the rest of the Cleveland Nat'l Forest.

Man, no camping info on the Event website, and no camping info at the Venue's website the date of the event. Yay for organization!

It looks to me like the start/finish is closer to the Lower Merlot section of the campground. Are you guys in Oaks or Lower Merlot? Or somewhere else?

Please post up your site reservations so we can keep an STR group in the same general vicinity! Thanks!

PS...other sections the weekend of the event are $50 for tent camping, but Vail Lake has the reservations at $65 if you're in the Lower Merlot section. Lame!

I have never raced before. Should I go solo? Or does anyone want to team up with me? I am a short 160lbs. The longest I have ridden to date is Project Rwanda in the slacker group. I am ok with heat since I work outside for a living. Give me some input!

Just because you enter and ride, doesn't mean you have to crank til you die. You can always set your own pace.

Campground Lower Merlot almost any site is good, full hook-ups at each site (water, dump, power).

Call for reservations - they are discounted for the race, tents are less. This is a seperate camping area from the rest of their campground. It's very small every site fills up.

Plenty of people just come up for the day, and pit somewhere near the venue and race course. You DO NOT have to camp if your not happy with the cost.

FYI: Jason has done a ton of good for this race, they get bigger and bigger each year! We have raced his races since his first one. You will change your tune once you see how grass roots and awsome this promoter is.

Jason - before you decide why not pre-ride the course here in the next few weeks with Neil - then make your decison. I already know what Neils going to tell you

Well, that's good to know. I didn't intend to "dis" anyone, I was only frustrated that I wanted to register now (online), and I couldn't find any info on which section of the campground was reserved for us, and/or nearest to the start-finish line...so I couldn't reserve my campsite without confirming here on STR first! It would be cool to have a blurb of info on the Event site, or have Vail Lake update their event page.

I figured it was discounted for the race...but it was strange when I went to reserve a site. It looked like it was more expensive instead of discounted! I tried either Oaks or Upper Merlot first, and it gave me a $50 tent option on 6/13.

But then when I went to reserve the site in Lower Merlot on 6/13, there was no tent-only option (the drop-down menu was greyed out) and it was $65. Maybe these are pull-thrus or something, I may have missed something.

I'll call them tomorrow and see what's what.

Thank you!

PS...that's Friday the 13th in case you haven't noticed!!!
