Default Sdmba Skills Clinic – Saturday April 12, 2008, 8:30 Am

Join the San Diego Mountain Biking Association, probuiltwheels.com/ and joyridemtb.com/ for a FREE skills clinic for SDMBA MEMBERS ONLY on Saturday, April 12.

The clinics will cover skills for all levels and interests including XC, technical all Mountain riding, Freeriding and Trials riding. All clinics will be held at Balboa Park’s Morley Field/Florida Canyon (see directions below). Space is limited to 40 people, so you must register by completing the registration information below and e-mailing it to skills@sdmba.com.

Only current SDMBA members will be accepted. You can join or renew your membership online at www.sdmba.com with PayPal or a credit card. No day-of-event registration will be allowed and clinic crashers will be scorned! Here's the schedule:

CROSS-COUNTRY – Begins at 9:00 a.m. SHARP!
Learn the skills you need to tackle almost any trail in San Diego County including climbing and descending on steep and technical terrain, switchbacks and steps. The beginners will start with gentle slopes in a safe environment and work up to some of the easier trails. Intermediate and advanced riders will use the more challenging trails to build confidence with new skills. Your lead instructor will be Expert Mountain Biker and trainer Joy Martin of JOYRIDEmtb.com

TRIALS Riding – 11:30 a.m. Eat lunch during the demo, followed by hands on learning!
Tired of dabbing on that particularly pesky technical section? Want to impress your friends while they all bog down, as usual? Then this clinic is for you. The emphasis is on developing basic trials skills to improve your trail riding. You won't have to put your foot down! Your instructor will be Protrial rider Kevin Gyberg.

ALL MOUNTAIN/FREERIDE – 2:00pm
This clinic is for all those who want to gain confidence and control dropping ledges, jumping, cornering, picking a line, body positioning and negotiating rock gardens. All types of bikes are appropriate for this clinic. Your lead instructor will be Expert Downhill Mountain Biker and owner of ProBuiltWheels.com Rick Nunez

REQUIRED FOR ALL CLINICS:
Bring your bike and bike helmet! Riding gloves are recommended for all.
Protective pads and flat pedals are recommended for the Trials Riding and Freeriding Class.

LUNCH: Bring a lunch; SDMBA will provide cold beverages.

Directions to the Clinics:
Take I-5
Exit Pershing Dr
Take Pershing Dr continue uphill (Golf Course is on right side);
Turn into the first driveway on the left (this is also the entrance to the Velodrome); Proceed on paved road for about 200 yards;

I'm not familiar with that area: are there appropriate obstacles for the Free Ride clinic?

Good question, there are areas of Florida Canyon that work vary well for the Freeride clinic; we don’t need or want 10 foot jumps or drops, we are teaching the skills/techniques of jumping your bike so small jumps are what works best for teaching.

Hey Brian,
I've seen you ride...how's your ribs?
I'm taking the intermediate classes...cross country & trials riding. They said the classes are scheduled so you can take them back to back.

I signed up when hubby showed me the site, joined SDMBA & received my membership card but have yet to hear about my spot for the clinic. Have you heard anything?
