Default Downieville Gathering

From Kyle (K-max on mtbr):

It's that time of year to start planning the Summer Kickoff Gathering in Downieville! Wooot!

Friday, June 20 – Sunday the 22nd, 2008.

We've got all kinds of things planned for this year's event with all the fun of last year. Beer corral, raffle, movie night...it's all coming back.

Don't miss out!! This was a great trip last year. Tons of beer, tons of swag, and awesome trails!

Some of the plans include...

1) A grip of IPA's, hopefully donated, to be taste tested for mountain biker analysis.

2) Raffle of amazing products and probably a few stickers

3) Fun mountain biking in several different ecosystems

4) Laughing at your friends

5) Campsite criterium

6) Laughing with your friends

7) Possible random cuttings

17 miles of downhill bliss

9) 2nd divide orgasmic exhaultation

10) Pinecone Bocce Ball

11) River jumping

and of course a ton of fun

If you have the opportunity to go you really should consider it. The people are great, the camping is spectacular, the bike is unreal and it is a bike trip of a lifetime. I hope you all can make it!!!

Hey guys - As of last night I think the campground had 2 sites still available.

Did a search and there's one more site still available
http://www.recreation.gov/campsiteSearch.do (nevermind - looks like they are all gone)

No worries though if you don't get one reserved, basically Kyle (kmax - on mtbr) had asked people to reserve the sites so that the entire campground is reserved for the gathering.

This way anyone who shows has got a site to camp in. The plan is to share sites with everyone and take the pain of worring about where to camp out of the picture.

This thread explains everything you need to know about how the camping will work

Jason - this is exactly why you need to buy our pop-up. Nothing better than a little shelter and comforts of home for the wife and then to be little one

Oh and also - You may be asking is this is a family type trip?

The answer is yes! Plenty of the organisers have families and they all come, last year several non-riding family members came and I was told there is plenty of hiking and relaxing for those that don't ride (at least that's what I was told by Andy & Neil).I think Madeline and I will be making this trip too!

This is really tempting. I don't know my work schedule yet though.

For those familiar with the area, will the snow be an issue up top? Seemed to me when I was up there in Aug/Sept there were still quite a few patches to ride through.

It was an early summer last year, which is why it was June 6-9 last year. But, there was only one small snow patch if I recall correctly, at least on the shuttle trails. I think one of the guy's that did a huge epic on Thursday hit some snow (he was out there for about 12 hours, I think?).

It's spring now, so hopefully not too many more huge storms will be coming our way!

Its kind of over-rated, I'd stay local and hit the loop instead of D-Ville.
Too long of a drive, lots of bugs, Justin looking for glory holes at various campsites, Ted Nugent and Flow Master 40 exhaust systems at 5 in the morning, missing tents, lots of beer, shuttle services, grilling for 3 days, flowing singletrack, tech sections all over the fricking place, altitude....that doesn't sound like fun does it?
I HIGHLY recommend passing on this one....

If you did not figure it out yet, I jest!
Bring your drinking shoes, a knife, climbing legs and lungs and get some sleep before you get there because it never stops!!

Now I need to convince my buddy w/ a popup to come along so I have somewhere to sleep.

Woohooo!!! We'll be leaving Murrieta earrrlllly Thursday morning. Probably won't get to ride Thursday evening (who knows). But will ride Friday and Saturday. Friday we may do shuttles, but I think Saturday we're gonna hit up the A ride! I didn't think I had the fitness last year, but hopefully I can keep up this year.

I won't be sniffing any A ride, lol!

I'll leave either Thursday evening or REALLY early Friday morning - It's about 3 - 3.5 hours. We'll see how things go leading up to it...
