I plan to be there Sun am for the Blackstar ride. I'm also off all week, so I'd be up for more rides...Holy Jim to Trabuco or maybe do the Horsethief to Trabuco, since I've never done that part of VQ. Another possibility is to do a loop up Harding to Santiago Peak, down Holy Jim, then back via O'Neil Park - here's the geoladders link: geoladders harding loop
Anyway, it's all good...

You need a pass or invitation to go though.

there is a loop on www.mountainbikebill.com in orange county that involves holy jim...i think they say they went up trabuco and then came down holy jim, but you can continue on main divide all the way to upper holy jim and come down

I'm going to pass on the Blackstar loop tomorrow considering the high temps and winds in the forecast. Let's plan another CNF ride like HJ/Trabuco or Harding/Peak or something like that soon though.

Ride report: Had six riders start out with the intent of Blackstar- Silverado Motorway with possible bonus extension to Maple Springs. Wind was bad up to Beek's but not too bad after that. Super clear day with spectacular views of all of the So Cal mountains, Catalina, downtown LA, etc. Four of us, including Lance (first time doing the loop) made it to Motorway. Kipp and I rode on to Maple Springs. That is a tough 7-8 miles from Motorway to 4 corners (took about 1 hour)! I put the profile into Topo! and it turned out to be about 2000 vertical feet with an average grade of 13% on the climbs and a the last 3 climbs totalling about 1300 feet with a 16% grade. All the climbing was steep and some very loose. Good job Matt and Kipp, "The Next Generation"! Total ride for me and Kipp was about 35 miles and 6000 vertical. Definitely a good start to heavy duty VQ/CC training season!

Default maple springs

I rode turnbull canyon today with Armando and three other guys for a total of I think 16 miles but there was a lot of climbing, I dont know how much but alot. Kipp I have that same pain in my lower back, right to the side of the butt crack. I think it might me climbing related, plus it was hotter than hell today.
Someone should plan a ride from Holy jim to trabucco this week, I am definatley down to go.
P.S. A good thing about being young Kipp is we get to heal and feel better alot faster than most people. In my opinion serious mountan bikers are in better shape than 90% of people in society, at least from what I have seen.

I felt naked without a helmet (plus it was a good excuse to turn around); plus I guess you get wiser with age so I decided a quick cruise down and a cold beer was a smarter option for the day.

Bob and I were thinking about the other riders around 10:45 while were were relaxing at the Claim Jump munching down on a clubhouse sandwich, a chili size and some brew. (I guess you really do get smarter with age)

ps....I was still the first one up to Beeks place in 1:18 on my SS (and the only SS in the bunch I might add)

I'll probably to this ride again on Friday or Saturday to burn off some T-Day food.

see ya

true Adam was first up to beeks place.

hey Pete... Sorry I bailed on you riding down the road, I was behind you and saw my car at the last second, so I slammed on the brakes and joined them for a sandwich at the general store. *Thanks for pushing my butt those last 7 painful miles!

I agree, a GREAT ride on sunday! You all flew up to Beek's! I was so slow some dude coming down from Beek's asked me, "And are you the only one in your group?" I thought he was messing with me.... I have never claimed to be fast uphill or downhill! I'll get there eventually, just nice and slow!

So whether you turned around at Beek's, went all the way to Four Corner's, or capped off the ride with a solo journey up half of Maple Springs then rode home from starbucks (young matt, just can't get enough!), my hats off to you all. You guys are strong riders! It was great meeting you, and I know I'll learn lots from riding with such a skilled group! ...if I can keep up, that is!

I'm looking forward to the next one!

Yah I dont know if I can do cc I have only been mtbing since september but you never know it all depends how much I want to dedicate myself.. I have school on wednesday and will be down for a ride this weekend in the Santa Ana's, A long ride sounds good. I think I might do the 33 mile ride on thursday at Mt. Wilson but it all depends on how I am feeling. Of that 33 miles, 21 miles are up hill.

My reward will be coming home to a great meal.

Yah make a date and time this weekend and ill be there.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about speed these days. More concerned about getting back home alive and taking in the beautiful SoCal scenary while fooling my body into exercise.

Here are a few pics from the ride. I think Bob took some too, and his may even feature humans.

I'll keep them original size so if your dialing up, sorry...
