You guys need to make a hill climb bike! Maybe a 29er with a 20" wheel in front! Just a thought.

Time for a different gear

Here is what the ride looks like (dunno where the little spike came from). The elevation is form a barometric calculation, nit a GPS one.

Looks like a consistent climb.
What gear are you running? 26 er?

I ran a 26" wheel and 39 x 24 w/ 165mm cranks.
didn't run out of heart, just couldn't get much push w/ the short cranks. Got stuck at the last steep before the end and couldn't get both feet back in.

Not giving up yet

I'm afraid to move to longer cranks because these have managed to save my knees.

I can't image you'd get much leverage with those mustache um I mean dirt drops. I was comparing the elevation profile with meadows and it seem like meadows is just a tad steeper and almost twice as long. Don't know how the switchbacks factor in comparatively though. If you can climb meadows.........

The thing with Meadows is that you have that nice little falt section to kind of catch yor breath.
There's no flat spots on Poles.

It is actually kinda interesting how I ended up with the drops...
spent most of my time on the 'Cross bike. Was looking for something not fully rigid as stuff like Rock It was just beating me up. Got a Hardtail with a squishy front end.

Started with a set of delta bars. Really liked 'em for climbing but I somehow felt cheated. Seems that I've spent some significant effort working the muscles on the back of the legs and on the MTB it was all Quads.

I agree that the drops don't provide much leverage but I certainly can climb with them. Can almost clear Cholla and can easily clear the ride form cholla to Top of the World fully seated running a 39x24. Managed most of Holy Jim on a 39x20.

Can't do all of Bell View though (but I doubt the gearies can either).

So, I'm hatching a cunning plan to take the 'Cross bike up Poles later in the week

Poles is steeper but shorter. My data (GPS'd last June) shows a lot of slope in the mid 20's, Dreaded Hill centers around 18-19%.
