Default Holy Jim to Horsethief Loop

Sat. Mar. 8: Holy Jim to Horsethief Loop. Advanced skill level ride. The first five miles of this route are on Trabuco Creek road (dirt). Immediately following is the ascent up Holy Jim trail with its excellent views, switchbacks and varying vegetation. Hang a right to begin the Main Divide fire road climb up to the steep, serpentine singletrack descent, West Horsethief. Continue back down Trabuco Creek road to complete the route. Distance is 24 miles and gain is 3900 ft. Additional route info at geoladders.com/show_route.

Directions: From South Bay area: 405 south towards Orange County. Merge onto I-5 S. After a bit more than 3 miles take exit for Alicia Parkway and turn left onto Alicia Parkway. In about 5 miles turn right onto Santa Margarita Parkway, and then turn left onto Plana Trabuco Road which turns left and becomes Trabuco Canyon Road. In less than 1 mile you'll come to Trabuco Creek Road.

Why not go all the way to Trabucco? Rode down WHT on Saturday and it just isn't worth it......way to short. Trabucco is a much more fun trail.

I agree with J here. WHT is a controlled skid most of way down.

I've done this, on a BMX bike even and WHT to Trabuco is far more gratifying. There is a lot of main divide to cover and the last part {the wall} is the least pleasant.
