Default Otay Reservoir (Lower and Upper) Night Ride - Chula Vista

Bonita Bikers are gathering for a night ride at Otay Reservoir on Friday at 6:30 pm. Ride starts at 7:00 pm. This is mostly rolling single track with some fire road mixed. We'll ride about 12-15 miles and your light will need 2 hours of charge. This is a fun, quick paced ride that is well suited to night riding. We typically host this about once per month. Hope you can make it.

Directions: From the 805, take Olympic Parkway east to Olympic Training Center. Make a right on Wueste Rd and go just passed the Training Center entrance. Park on left side of road by swing gate. I'll be in the silver Subaru Forester.

We're up to five confirmed. This is a good ride and an excellent way to kick off the weekend rides without wearing yourself out.

What gearing did you end up with? You may end up spining like crazy!

Jose,
You asked Eric the same question I had for him. Let's see what he's got. They recommend 32x20, 32x18 and I had mine at 32x16. I am changing it to 32x18 to see how it feels and I may do it like yours if still too hard to push. If mine is ready by Friday, I may join you guys as well.
See you later

OK I am running 32x18 and it seems perfect for me. You have to find that balance between spinning on the flats and being able to climb. That gearing is what I started w/ and never tried anything else (at least on a mtn bike). I'm going to get a 16 eventually and try the 2:1 route.

And you can SS Sweetwater with that gearing? Wow, I don't think I can climb Gnag Catcher with mine.

Don't get me wrong it hurts, but it's really just the first 30 yards or so(with all those rocks) that is the hard part. After that I just alternate between standing and sitting the entire way up.
