Mike, FXRob and I are also going to be doing that ride on sunday. Although it is merely 1/3 of the ride we did at Maple Springs it is a doozy. You climb for 5 miles, with very few flat sections, it is pretty steep and has tons of switchbacks. It is a bitchin' trail though. Just be prepared to get off your bike many times to cross the stream, and to walk the switchbacks that are unrideable. Also, bring bug spray, I imagine the gnats are in full effect. Oh yeah, the 4.5 mile drive down the bumpy road sucks, but is fun if you are in a truck, I look forward to doing a little rally session on our way back out.

Just hold me to the 10 minute rule since I'm doing the Amtrack Century on Saturday and may decide to sleep in on Sunday. Let me know your starting time, but don't wait for me. Thanks Adam

MIke, you should try to meet up with Del (ladd jasper) just off of Live Oak Rd and drive back there with him. A lot of people park in the dirt area right off the road. I'm not sure if you know how to get there, but its basically the same as going to Maple Springs, but DONT turn left off of Santiago Canyon on to Silverado. You are going to take Santiago Canyon for about another 10 minutes or so and then you make a left when you see the famous Cooks Corner restaurant/bar, that is Live Oak Rd. You then take that for about another 10 minutes or so and you make a left after you cross over a narrow bridge, you'll see the dirt road on your left.
Craig, we'll look for you in the back lot there. I'll be driving a black Ford Ranger. Adam, how is the ride from the top of Holy Jim to Trabuco compare to the top of Maple Springs to the Motorway? I hear it isn't as long, but is it as steep, does it have any long climbs? I really wanna make the trek over to Trabuco, so I got to prepare myself, hahaha. |

Wish I could make it. I still need to ride with y'all. What ever happened to the proposed socaltrailriders monthly ride?
Anyhow, You guys picked a good weekend weather wise. The 5 miles of single track/switches are fun. But the last 3 miles up the fireroad to the peak can be a real grinder. Lots of sand and lots of rocks at times and it can get hot when the sun breaks through. Have a good one. |

Great ride today, we ended up doing Holy Jim to Santiago Peak. It was Dino, Craig, the 2 Matt's and myself. Come to find out later that Dell and Mike showed up late and tried to catch us, but they went over to Trabuco. They ended up finishing about 2 minutes after we did and I saw Dell coming down from Trabuco
Anyway, weather was actually very pleasant. There was a nice cool breeze so the temps stayed at a very comfortable level. We had 2 flats and 1 broken chain, but we all made it to the Peak and back down HJ in one piece. Dino took a few pics so he should be posting up a report tomorrow probably. Great ride again, sorry that we never bumped into Dell and Mike....next time guys ![]() |
