Make sure she has all of her protection gear, but don't make it too uncomfortable, or she may not have a good time because of it.

Remember, kids are resilient. They fall and they bounce. If they do get hurt, they heal fast, and they'll have great stories to tell for the rest of their lives.

Other than that, have a beer...or three, but make sure you can still use your camera, because you'll capture great moments that you'll all cherish for the rest of your lives.

How old is she?

Ricky - Julia will be there.

Julia's activities coordintoor and driver will be hanging around somewhere.

Traci - Maddie is going to be so cool on the track saturday morning. Just have a tequila shot before heading to the track. I don't know if the shot works or not...its just an idea. I intend to try this next time Dino has me watching my daughter and him DH'ing in Fontana.

Fred said Dino's idea of having me watch is great. It will make me comfortable watching her.

Julia is so excited about Friday.

Sharky - Too bad you can't make it.

Lee - she's 6 and can ride real well, She's owns a freeagent(?) We have a motocross full face she'll wear at her clinic, but didin't want to buy all the pads etc until she tries the clinic and likes it. Once she's given us the okay we'll get her the gear.

Ezzy - Shots & Bear on SAT am let the party begin!

She'll be fine without elbow pads and kneepads, providing she has long pants and a long shirt or jersey. Sounds like she's pretty well set.

BITD (back in the day), I used to race Free Agent 20" and 24" bikes, back when the original owner of the company lived in Buena Park. They're still very nice bikes. Daddy done good.

Let us know how it goes. I have a friend whose 11 yo daughter is interested in trying BMX. The parents' concern is that she's the size of most 8 year olds.

I'll be riding the 24...I think you know what it looks like so I should be easy to identify. If you can't find me, ask the medics where I am. Keep in mind that at Orange, I won't likely be the only person wearing an FB jersey.

Question

I'd like to meet you guys but have a couple of quick questions: full face helmet isn't required right? what about pads for the bike?

Site lists $10 for racing and $5 for practice. Is an ABA membership required? If so, any idea if it can be used at other bmx tracks, name Kearny Mesa in SD?

DMR Sidekick HT w/110m fork

Lee,

Are you sure you don't want to "store" a couple of bikes at my place while you're out of town? I'm pretty sure Ko doesn't mind that you travel, and *might* not sell anything while you're gone, but you never know

Fred- How funny was it last night!

I ride Lee's bike and utter the words, 'it's perfect!" You pedal away on the bike at Mach 47... only to return 5 minutes later to utter the words, "noo... no... no... it's perfect." Julia tears-up the BMX track on Lee's bike. Returns and utters words along the lines, "I like it more than the other bikes (it's perfect)." Elvia took off on the bike only to return 5 minutes later with a smile glued to her face. It's perfect.

Ricky wouldn't even TOUCH the bike out of fear he would need one!
After riding it- he was talking about depleting his PAYPAL on a new cruiser! Haha! Too funny!

The post-ride meal wasn't bad either!

What a sweet bike and the color BLACK. Yes - it's perfect and small. Ricky you should have seen yourself riding it. It looked like it belonged to you.

Ricky - Thank you for posting this BMX practice last night. It really was a fun time for those riding and for those not riding.

Lee - Is amazing (what else is there to say?).

Neil - He said he had never been on a BMX Track. I can really see Maddy taking after her daddy and tearing up the track today.

It really was nice seeing so many STR faces at the BMX track last night. Traci, Meagan, Letty, Gabe, Neil, Dino, Mtnbikerfred, Kole, Stef, I know I am leaving names out. Last but not least Dino's little brother he is just the coolest. Thank you for making the trip out with your camera.

As Elvia said, it was so cool seeing so many STR people out there! I didn't expect Gabe or Neil to show up and ride. I never really new - although had suspicions - that Neil was a BMXer at heart. And Gabe...he just has natural talent. Jules will be out there racing soon - she has to - I won the bet (by holding off the 14 year old kid until past the third turn in the second moto). Cool to see Ricky rocking the Riot. And, I'm sorry, I forgot the name of the person on the yellow 4X bike.

I'm looking forward to seeing Neil being become a BMX dad who races. Also looking forward to seeing Maddy on the track. Traci? Just the same, will we see Dino on the track? You know you want to, Dino! And good BMX bikes are relatively inexpensive!

There were also a few other of the regular 4X racers from Fontana - some riding their 24s and some riding their 26s. It's cool to see the blend of mtbers with or as BMXers.

Although next Friday night is too close to Saturday's Fontana race, we should try to do STR night every Friday at Orange. If not Friday, we can do Sunday afternoons (practice is from about 3:00 to 5:45 pm).

Dino, thanks for bringing your brother. He's a pretty cool guy, too.

Jules, instead of reading this, go out and practice your balancing!

So...are geared MTB's allowed at Orange now, or are all of you guys doing double duty on cruisers? I've been out of the BMX loop for a while but I grew up racing @ Orange. I also live just a few miles from there!

I can't make it this time, but is it a weekly thing? I wouldn't mind bringing the MTB for practice next week.

Mountain bikes with gears have been allowed for as long as I remember. Back in 1996, we were actually having mountain bike BMX races when enough would show. They'd actually run us around the track twice! I only did a couple of those.

As for these days, many 4Xers and DJers ride their geared mtbs on the track. Some of us are also riding our 20" or 24" BMX bikes.
