Lower Merrill to Sunset /El Prieto

Sat. Feb. 23: Lower Merrill/Inspiration Point to Sunset and El Prieto Trail. B+ Level. TS 4 & EL 3. This is an approx. 15-mile ride with single track, technical challenges and good ol SoCal history. We will park at JPL parking lot, ride pavement eastbound for a few miles, then up the Lower Sam Merrill where we will we will discover the ruins of what was once a very chic resort and listen to Echo Mountain mock us. We will then ride the remains of the old Mt. Lowe Railroad Trail then down Sunset Trail, both white knuckle adventures. The fun continues as we ride up up Millard Canyon fireroad over to El Prieto single track which we take down and through the Arroyo, and back to the JPL parking lot. If it rains the previous day, ride may be cancelled. Confirm with leader.

Directions: From the South Bay: Take 405N to 105E to 110N to 5N to 2N to 210E. and exit at Windsor Ave/Arroyo Blvd., turn left at the off ramp onto Windsor and continue for about a mile. Park in the paved parking area on the left near the entrance to JPL just before the street curves to the right becoming Ventura St.
From Thousand Oaks area: Take 101E to 134E to 2N to 210E. Or take 23N from Thousand Oaks to 118E to 210E. Exit 210E at Windsor/Arroyo Blvd., turn left at the off ramp, and continue on Windsor Ave. until reaching the parking area near the entrance to JPL just before Ventura St. curves to the right.
