you would be surprised how long of a ride this would be... factor in elevation, exposure, water crossings, possible mechanicals it could be a long ride.

if you want to start later, you should make another thread with a later start and see if someone that has ridden there is willing to show you the way.

Jordan it's a 24 mile loop, sometimes the ride takes 3 -4 hrs sometimes the ride takes 8 . There is a ton of single track, exposure, and climbing. It is not your ideal easy route. It by no means is a really hard ride either, depending on how many people and skill levels that choose to ride depends on how long it will take.

Starting at noon, especially this early in the season would only be asking for problems. There may be trees down, wash outs, snow, ice, etc. That may require some walking that normally wouldn't be an issue. Most of the people RSVP'd have done the route several times and are having SART withdrawls, there-fore willing to maybe hit some unusual obsitcals to ride fantastic single track.

I think you'd love it! Just go to bed early the night before and make it happen.

If not this time, there will plenty of SART rides during the warmer months. Even then I'm not sure how late the rides will start, like I said the ride *can* take all day. Just ask Allison & Justin - they had like 30 people show up for a SART ride that didn't really get started until about 10 am, will all the skill levels and breaks/mechanicals it was a really long day

Your answer was perfect, thank you! I wanted to know a little more and now I do, thank you very much. Not looking to do my own thing just wanted to know what was expected aside from what Geoladders tells you. If I can clear that time from work stuff I am in for a good time on the bike and BB is always fun! Ride all day and go tubing at night

Definitely start riding/climbing a little more. Not sure of what route they are planning on doing, though. But, it is at a higher elevation than you will be used to riding.

Bring *plenty* of food that you can eat (whether it is trail food, PB&J, steak and potatoes, etc.) and water/hydration.

Even if you don't get in more mileage/climbing, definitely make sure you've got enough food you are willing to eat (it can be a long day) and water/electrolyte replacement (try an energy drink, if it is gatorade!).

So you guys are basically doing the whole route? FWIW, this is a GREAT ride, but it is also a TOUGH ride! I'm looking forward to riding SART a few times this spring/summer/fall!

You guys better closely monitor the weather and conditions. A couple weekends ago there was a foot of snow on the ground and a blizzard blowing at Angelus Oaks and chains were required.

More snow expected this week right around that elevation.

We'll make it up there! Besides, riding in 2ft of snow and downed tree's doesn't sound like my idea of fun

Again IMO he should "work-up" to a ride like this

We travel that road (the 38 ) weekly, and will keep an eye open to the conditions, Neil will post any changes once he's done his best to evaluate the trail and conditions.

Snows expected at 6000 feet this storm That's Big Bear elevation.

Thanks

It actually wasn't too bad the last time I was over there a few weeks ago. There is still a bit of snow and ice, but nothing that would stop a good ride. I'm not sure if we're going to get anymore snow between now and then though.

I was thinking a recon ride might be in order for next weekend. Down from the campground at least.
