With Brian scouting out the trail a reroute most likely will be in order.
It looks like skipping the Post Office loop and just going down the fireroad to Middle Control and then start the climb up to southfork.
For those that were going to shuttle, a meeting time of maybe 10am at Angelus Oaks and then just shuttle to Southfork and we all go back to Angelus Oaks together.
Or we wait until the full trail is rideable- the extra credit above the post office and the post office loop is fantastic and a shame to miss!- and try again in a few weeks OR we all meet at 8am as planned and road ride, yes Jose, road ride, to South Fork and then hit the dirt, snow, mud from there.
I am open for suggestions but by 2 pm today a decision has to be made so we all know what the heck we are doing!

I guess the big question is if it's going to be worth it to drive out there. I've never been to SART and seems like a significant portion of the trail is being cut out due to trail conditions. A lot of are going to be getting up early(even earlier with the time change) so would it be beneficial to postpone the ride and wait till it thaws out???

Seems like a fun day anyhow, but be a shame to drive all that way and miss a lot of the trail.

1FG is right, I really wanna do this ride however if it is significantly less than what it was is it worth waking up at 5:30 and an 1.5 hour drive. If you say it is still worth it then I am all for it otherwise rescheduling could be the best course.

IMHO the extra-credit behind the post office is like 5% of this whole ride, you honestly don't miss that much by skipping it

You also don't have to ride Hwy 38 to reach Southfork....if you drop down middle control (by-passing SART) and turn right at the bottom (on 7-Oaks road) it turns into a paved road....after a few miles it turns into a fire road.....it crosses Glass Road and eventually it reaches South Fork....its easy to follow since it runs all along the river...

At some point this road forks......you can choose either one, they eventually merge....the right one is easier...

Default My 2 cents

Here is how i look at it. Donkey rode it...said there is still a lot of snow..maybe drifts He said nothing of a mudd fest or slop. But if there is still snow...well the ground is probably hard. We know it will be a bit cold....forcast is calling a high of upper 50's....but not in the shade and a lot of the ride is in the shade.

As much as i hate this.....I can pass on this ride till a later date...but April is a big event month so hopefully we can kindly schedule it. This ride you can do all summer long.....since it is at altitude.

I will eyeball the thread later to see if the majority bows out.....if not i may still go but it is 100 miles one way for me and I would like to do the whole trail. And i even went and bought a damn pass

IMHO....it's still worth the drive. The section behind the post office is 2 or 3 miles......the section from middle control to southfork is 10 or soo?(just estimations)

Soooo....assuming you skip the section behind the PO and just ride from MC to SF.....you still get roughly 20 miles of ST(given that you'll be riding the trail out and back).

The little lady and I will likely still give it a go. When you factor in the Loch Leven climb it's still worth the drive.

I am all about hitting the trail regardless of what is open or not, I am trying to consider those that were maybe not going to do the whole route to begin with.

Since this was a group ride I wanted all that signed up to ride together, hence the "problem".
I know Jose, Justin, Myself, !FG, etc can do this ride but thats not the reason for the ride. I want Pugz, Joe and others to enjoy the trail and I believe they were not going to do the climb up from Angelus to SOuthfork to begin with so in my opinion its not worth the drive for a southfork to middle control ride........give me some opinions por favor

Don't not do the ride because of me, while I would love to do the ride if the new route is above my ability I will bow out and do the ride the next time it goes on. Just let me know if it above me or not.

so we are looking at a total mileage of 20 or so miles? what type of riding has been cut out? just trying to figure out what kind of riding there will be, ie; mostly climbing, equal climbing/descent, etc. Thanks.

Default Location Change!!!

ok, I have made some phone calls to the bubbs- thanks guys!- we are heading to San Clemente Singletrack!
Here is the link via geoladders for directions: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=1674

Now just about everyone I ride with has never been there so if any of you signed up are familiar with the trail(s) let me know, otherwise I am going to follow the geoladders route.

Sorry about the late change of plans but dammit! I am riding with Pugz tomorrow!
Lets meet at the dog park at 9am ready to roll!

Cool. I think it's better to err on the safe side rather than being disappointed when we get all the way up to SART. We can all do this later when the conditions are better.

See you all at SCST.

Aloha shirts optional tomorrow!

On the geoladders link go down about half way on your left is the "find trailhead" button. Type in your address and it should give you the distance/driving time...for me it is 45 miles away/55 minute drive.
