Default STR Idyllwild Camping Weekend Part Deux?

Who is up for a 2nd annual camping weekend up at Hurkey Creek?

STR Idyllwild camping weekend (lots of pics)

I thought maybe either April 5-6 or 11-12? I'd like to get out for the 12 hours of Bootleg, but Justin would probably rather ride a bunch of trails in Idyllwild

I figured even if we split up for rides during the day, there is still plenty of time to hang out!

Anyone wanting to do the 24 hours up there, or the Idyllwild Spring Challenge can get a great sense of the trails!

Camping would be at Hurkey Creek park (pay showers, running water).

Trail options: Hurkey Creek loop, Thomas Mountain/Ramona Trail, Idyllwild Spring Challenge loop (expert/pro course), Humber to Hurkey shuttle, and night laps around the course (only if you are Keith).

Soo, just wanted to test the interest level, and dates.

If low, maybe we'll plan a bikepacking trip up SART?

Hum sounds fun, depends on how everything works out. Moab trip is that month. It may be doable, depends on funds at the time. I love the Romona trail, probably my all time fav.

At least it is close to home, and while not free camping (I think it's $17/night, or was last year?) it's still a lot cheaper than an $80 hotel room!

We will probably go up Friday night.

We'd love to go, we missed out last year and were totally bummed, I would do more riding in the camp ground with Maddie than anything but would love to participate in the camping part, but.....April is busy for us.

Sea Otter, then 24 hrs of GG in Temecula the weekend after. If you camped Sat to Sunday we could maybe come up Sat evening after Neils off.

SART would be cool too! Neils been trying to camp at southfork for 2 years.

Sounds like it'll be sweet already

Traci - Sea Otter is at the end of the month If he's got Sunday off you could maybe come up Saturday and he could come up after work? Only one night, but still might be fun. Probably a far commute for you guys to come out Friday night.

Besides, most of us are slumming it in tents That's what the beer is for, right?

Or, maybe I'll try red wine and tequila this time around instead!

I thought Sea Otter was the 17th - 20th GG is the 26th -m 27th.. I guess that is the end of the month.

Your right it's way too far to commute on a Friday night, we've done it before and it's long. I'll send Neil this direction and see what his thoughts are.

Tents? what are those? haven't seen one of those since the dark ages We'd most likely bring the Pop-up (for Maddie and penny of course)

If your drinkin Tequila Nam will drink up with you, since he's not drinng beer this year

Sounds fun.
One of my new years resolutions was to go camping more.

My other one was to ride Hurkey Creek.

This takes care of both at the same time. All annual goals will all be met before summer. Sweet.

We did this Easter weekend last year, but that is March 23, I believe. I'm worried about weather and don't want us riding/camping in snow!

So, unless anyone is opposed, I'll throw out 4/4/08-4/6/08 as the tentative weekend?

I don't think his motorhome will fit, and besides... we'd never finish the 24 hour loop!

I'm a big fan of tequila on a camping trip. After a long ride and an early dinner before it gets dark. Then it's Tequila and Scrabble!
But not too much. Or you might fall into the campfire later and really, that's just a buzzkill for everyone.

it could get ugly if Allison settles down with box wine and cheap tequila. stick to beer and the world will be better.
