With permission from the CNFS we can finally get a chance to train and ride the areas that are closed. This is a training ride and since it is a guided one we are limited spots.
The proposed route will be the Maple Springs to the peak. No one will be allowed to venture on their own. I will have guides in front, middle and a sweeper. When: Sun, Feb 17th Ride Time : 8am from the tree lot on Black Star Route : Maple Springs to the Peak NOTE: Due to the lack of parking at Maple Springs rd, We will park at the tree lot and ride into Maple Springs. This will be a good warmup before climbing up Maple Springs. There is another Guided ride posted for Sat. Sat route is much longer. Here are the rules: 1. The ride is intended for high intermediate and expert riders 2. Only those who RSVP will be allowed on the ride. You cannot RSVP for friends. 3. You must provide a valid ID the morning of the ride. The Forest Service is requiring that participant's names be kept so we can report any rider that illegally leaves the ride to them for prosecution. 4. Your bike must be clean to avoid the spread of invasive species near the burn areas. 5. You cannot pass the lead guide. 6. You cannot continue on down the back side of the Peak once you reach it. You must exit Maples Springs. |

I can't make Saturday, so this would be perfect. After descending Holy Jim, are you thinking Trabuco Creek/Live Oak/Santiago/Silverado road ride back to car (or maybe through O'Neill?). If people haven't done this, it can be a bit of a grunt. Anybody have an estimate of the total mileage and total ascent (full loop)? Are people meeting at 8, or rolling at 8?

Added poll to see which route most will do and made a "sticky" in the "Trailhead" forum so it will be easy to find and RSVP when it goes active. |

![]() this would add 25 miles and ~ 4000' for the full trip to Bluejay, but you could turn around at any time (when your legs start crying mama! ) here are the route details: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=177 |

If this ride happens and I provide my own transportation would it be a issue if me and another person met up with the group at the Maple springs trailhead. I think there is some parking a little bit down the road. Not wimping out but doing a long ride Saturday.

There will be very little, if any available parking along the Silverado Canyon Rd. Your friend will also have to RSVP on his own. No one will be allowed to have a guest tag along for this ride. These are rules set forth by the Forest Service not I or the WS.

Thanks Matt, you will have an oppertunity to RSVP when that opption is available, but due to some mis-communication by the CNFS between themselves, I will hold off activating the RSVP function until I get final word from "All" parties that this ride and the ride on Saturday is a go.

Route has been updated. please go to the top of the post for the updates.
Here is the latest: Gene, Our permit allows a maximum of 68 riders INCLUDING THE GUIDES. So subtract the amount of guides from the 68 and that will give you the maximum public participation. The lead rider must wear a volunteer shirt with the rest of the shirts spread amongst the rest of the guides. Those guides not wearing a Volunteer Shirt must wear their Warrior's Society Jerseys. You need to call the Monte Vista Emergency Communications Center at (619) 557-5262 to let them know you have a permit for a guided tour and give them the route and exit and your cell phone number. These are rules set by the FS not I or the WS. |

Does this mean that Sunday's ride will only be up Maple Springs to the Peak and back?

I'm a little confused by #6. So it's strictly an up and down on maple now - no continuation over the summit and down HJ?
(if so, you might want to try to delete the poll at the beginning of the thread)
