Default Carbon Canyon newbie ride 9:30 start

My friend and I are going to go riding over there this Saturday morning. I'm picking him up around 9 so we'll get there maybe 9:30. If anyone wants to join we'll wait around for ya. This will only be my second time there so I'm just going to take it slow and maybe ride 15 miles max.

I called the ranger yesterday and she said they were doing road work there and it could possibly be opened by the weekend. Better call first.

Chino Hills State Park doesn't do well in the rain because of the clay rich soil. There will probably be some wet spots for another week or more. I got the same info as Pat when I called, they are hoping to open it Saturday, but no guarantee.

Chino Hill's dirt is like glue when it rains. Got rained on there once and my tires won't turn at all because it was so caked up with mud. Had to walk miles to get out.

yeah the park ranger was telling me that the ruts created by mountain bikes can stay there for a long time if people ride after it rains. He recommended I ride fully loops thursday nights. lol

Heck yeah! I saw a work truck with equipment and tools going in on the Chino Hills side today. If they can drive one of those trucks in, I surely can get my bike in.

I've got some buddies coming in to ride. We'll probably start around 9AM from the carbon canyon side and do the following routes. up northridge, down sycamore, 4 corner, down raptor, up sidewinder, down bane(?) ridge, up telegraph to 4 corner, up bovinian, then finally down south ridge back! That'll be a descent work-out for the weekend!

I'll be riding from the Chino Hills side. Not sure on my exact route yet, but I am sure I will bump into you somewhere in there. I'll be on a red Ibex.

One of these Sat am's you need to show Maddie & I around so we can ride in the afternoons after school. Daddy told her she could ride in the mtns by our house now that she's got a bike with gears...
