Default CORBA Trail Maintenance on the Middle Merrill Trail

The Middle Merrill is one of the most popular trails in the Angeles Forest! Due to its location in the front range and its accessibility to shuttle riders it sees a lot of traffic.

It has been a long time since anyone has done any maintenance on this trail and it really needs it! There is no poison oak on this trail so don't let that hold you back!

There is brush work to do, water diversions, tread work...

We need your help on this one! Come on out and lend a hand! CORBA will buy you lunch!

Default Solo trail maintenance on Middle Merrill[2/1/08]

It'll be nice to be part of an organized trail maintenance group. That tree was heavy...

Just rode it (atleast I'm pretty sure it was the trail, up near inspiration point). Wasn't too bad. Just lots of bush clearing is all that is needed really, but everything was ride-able.

Yeah the trail was in better condition than I was expecting but still needs some work in focused areas. There is a good amount of brush work needed as you transition from the north face to the south face, lots of brake ruts from people who don't know how to properly manage their brakes, and some switchbacks that need rock armoring and/or tread width reduction.

When IMBA was out last spring they recommended a reroute around a section of really quick switchbacks but I don't think we will be able to do this on the 9th. That project will need to be reviewed by the Forest Service and will require a weekend in and of itself.

Glad to see have 9 people signed on from STR. I hope to get more by the 9th.

Thanks for the good work Brian. I was looking forward to doing some work on MM, but just found out I'll be out of Town that Weekend. Hopefully there will be another chance soon.

April 19th is State Trails Day and we will be working on the lower section of the Middle Merrill on that day!

It is really more about whether it is sustainable then it is about if it is rideable.

Dean, Thanks for pointing out the time change! It is really coming early this year! I heard they were moving it up but did not realize it was moving up a whole month!

We will meet at the new time!

I hope everyone remembers to set there clocks ahead on Saturday night!

This might sound silly but is everyone meeting at the gate and riding up or will there be a truck to take people up? Reason why I ask is that I could make it but need to be out of there by noon. I would much rather utilize my time working then climbing on my bike.

I hope that's the case and if so, I hope I can bring my bike along. I can then bail at noon and ride down to Lower Merrill and to my car. Hans?

Yes we will drive up the Mount Lowe fire road to the trailhead. You can bring you bike and then ride down. If any one wants to ride their bike up that works too!

I can fit two bikes in the tool trailer. There will probably be someone with a bike rack coming too.
