Default Hurkey Creek Thread

Just thought I'd put up a Hurkey Creek thread here instead of on the long ride post.

I'm still planning on going up to Hurkey Creek on the 9th of July for a morning ride. I plan on getting to the Hurkey Creek Park day use area around 8:00 am and wander around the trails until around noon; then grab a lunch in Idyllwild before heading back to O.C.

Anyone want to join me that day?

Also, let's use this thread for information on the 24 hours of adrenalin at Hurkey Creek.

Anyone here planning on putting together a team for the Sep 24th event?

A few people I know have loosely planned a Saturday ride up at Hurkey Creek for tomorrow if anyone is interested in joining in.

The general plan is to meet at the McDonalds parking lot on La Paz and Cabot Road near the 5 Fwy, then caravan up to Hurkey Creek.

We will probably get to Hurkey Creek around 8:30, then ride around the area for 3 to 4 hours or so, then grab a lunch and head back to O.C.

I'm not sure how many people (if any) are committed at this point, but I will definitely be at the McDonalds parking lot at 6:00 am tomorrow morning, and plan to start heading up to Hurkey Creek by 6:30 (with coffee in hand).

See ya in the morning if you plan on going

Is this trail relatively easy? My wife (noobie) and I will be heading out there this coming weekend and want to do some riding. Any suggestions?

the hurkey creek loop is definitely not a novice/beginner loop, it has some technical descending and climbing. it's a very fun ride, but not easy

Do you know of any trails you can recommend that are within the same area?

We ended up riding the trail that goes right next to Hurkey Creek. Since my wife is a noobie she didn't feel comfortable doing the whole loop.

Don't know the name of the actual trail. But when you pass the fence, instead of making a left we just headed straight up.
