Default Long Ride for July

I知 pre-planning a long ride for Saturday, July 9th if anyone is interested in joining me.

Not sure on the route yet but I知 planning on something that has a lot of downhill and coasting on the second half of the ride. Figuring around 50 miles +/- with a mid-point rest for food at the top of Santiago Peak.

I知 thinking possibly Blackstar/Santiago peak and back, or maybe adding a run down Joplin or Harding with a road spin back to the beginning of Blaskstar.

Anyone want to joint me that day? Could be a good SocalTrailRiders.org group ride day trip.

If I get in a couple of more training rides before then. The SS is new ground for 25+ mile rides. Only the Toads so far.

I'm planning on a very leisurely pace and half of the ride will be coasting, so it should be a comfortable SS ride. I'll be on my SS also.

Plenty of stops to regroup and enjoy the scenery.

50+miles! On a single. Yikes.

How's the climb up Blackstar to Santiago Peak. I've only been up to Santiago Peak once and that was up Holy Jim, and then up Main Divide. That was a few weeks ago and it kicked my hiney.

Just trying to gauge myself. I suppose I could always turn around if I get pooped.

The first 8 miles are a piece of cake, the second 8 miles have three somewhat tough loose climbs, but after that is sweet up and down rolling until the last 4 miles with some more loose climbing.

If we decide to go down Harding or Joplin for a road spin back to the cars, the trip back will be considerably faster than the trip up and a lot of fast coasting.

Again, I plan on an easy leisurely pace.

I'll be joining you guys!!! Its been a while since I've ridden 25+ miles. But im slowly getting back into shape.

I'm sure if we have enough guys we could also split up into two groups if some guys decide to turn back.

What kind of start time are we looking? Food at Cook's Corner is always good!!

I might be up to it... it's a while since I've ridden though. Lots of fever and strepp throat (sp?).

I'll give it a try though

How would I get to Blackstar from West LA?

I would love to go, but I'm still recovering from back spasms - slowly but surely. I hope to get on my bike next weekend for the first time in over a month!! Man, am I going through some serious withdrawal. Sometimes I'll just jump on my bike and ride around the block. Hopefully I'll get to meet up and ride one day soon.

Default Change of plan.

I'm switching my long ride across Saddleback to Sunday the 10th.

I'll be going up to Hurkey Creek for a morning of riding on Saturday the 9th instead.

If anyone want's to join me for one or both rides, just let me know.

Thanks

Yep,

Just could not decide between a team ride or solo ride, but after three days of riding there this past weekend, I decided to do it solo this year.

Signed up this morning and got my camp site already reserved in the solo campground.

Are you entering the 24 hr this year?

I've been thinking about putting together a casual-fun corporate team for the September event. Was supposed to do my first race (24hr) with some guys 2 years ago but I was sick and coming off knee surgery. So I helped the team out instead and have been yearning to race there since. I rode the course back then and thought it was awesome. Lots of singletrack but dusty in places.

Solo eh? Big props to you for trying that. Are you shooting for the end of September race JamR?

As of yesterday there was still a ton of campsites still open which means lots of time to get a team together for the Sep 24/25 race.

You should put together a SocalTrailRider.org corporate team just for fun. Get from 6 to 10 riders and each rider is only required to complete 1 lap. It's actually a lot of fun for the first time when you are on a casual team not trying for podium spot.

Go for it!
