Default CORBA Trail maintenance and ride on the Valley Forge Trail

We will return to the Valley Forge trail in the Angeles Forest. We will be doing some tread, light brush work and yucca removal. We will hike in do some trail maintenance until around 1:00 pm then hike back up to the top to get our bikes then ride down the trail! Meet at 8:00 am to carpool or 8:40 at the trailhead.

For a review of or last work day see: TR: Valley Forge

Directions:

From the 210 freeway in La Canada exit Angeles Crest Highway head north and park on the right side of the street. Meet here to carpool up at 8:00 am. If you want to drive directly to the trailhead continue up Angeles Crest Highway to Mount Wilson Road and make a right go 2 1/2 miles up Mount Wilson Road to Eaton Saddle and park here. The trail is on the north side of the road. Allow 1/2 hour to drive to the trail head from the 210 freeway.

This trailwork may be moved, depending on how much snow is on the ground up there. I might head up one afternoon this week and check it out....

Looks like there's quite a bit of snow up there right now!
Aerial view from this afternoon.

Sorry everyone but I have to back out of this event. I had to move my flight from Toronto from Friday night to Saturday night due to a big winter storm hitting Toronto tomorrow morning. Have fun out there.

I'm heading up to go ride the VF/Gab loop to check out conditions. If I don't post back in a few hours send the St. Bernards and snow shovels!

Default The trailwork is officially moved to Ken Burton Trail

I just got back from a survey ride to check on access to the trail in the snow. Problem was that I couldn't find the trail under the snow! It was deep and thick. I'll post a separate RR in a different thread.

Instead we'll meet at the corner of Windsor and Ventura near JPL at 8:00 a.m. and RIDE up to the top of Brown Mtn and down the Ken Burton trail. We'll do most of the work near the bottom of KB, rock-armoring and widening a section of new trail.

People will have the option of then riding back out down the GAB (bring a life jacket for the stream crossings ).. or back up the Burton and ride El Prieto on the way out.

You could've saved yourself the drive & looked at the Wilson cam. I can see snow from the base; I can only imagine how much there would be on the north west side.

"Towercam not working due to unknown reasons. Cannot access camera due to snow and ice."
That explains everything.

Exactly! At least they left us with a great pic of the snowy san gabs! We've been watching the cams to see if they would come back online. The road up to Wilson was closed, but they were letting workers for the radio towers go through today, so maybe they'll get it back online.

El Prieto needs some TLC after recent rains. Please see my thread under trail heads. Not sure if that's on the menu anytime soon but if it's not, it should be a consideration.

Here's why we're going to Ken Burton instead:

RR: Valley Forge / Red Box Fire Road (kind of!)

It is... we'll be doing the KB instead, and could possibly hit those two slides on the way out from KB as we'll probably ride down from Brown Mtn. There are some locals up there who usually take care of EL P, but we'll see how the day goes. If there's a good turnout we could possibly send a group down there... so come on out!
