Default SS Love Fest: Chiquita Ridge Single Track/Ladera Ridge/Waterworks

ATTENTION: DATE CHANGE to 2/17/08

I wanted to make sure that this ride go without a hitch so I rescheduled the ride to the 17th so that KeepWhatHappens to be our guide. Sorry for the change of plan but I figure we should change it early on

After much deliberation and input from eveyone interested in this Love Fest. It's been decided to that this loop has really good rolling ups and downs and some good climbs that can challenge as well as delight new and veteran SS'ers.

I want to follow the same route that KeepWhatHappens did on a recent outing w/ OMR

Quote:
We did a sweet route through Chiquita Ridge Singletracks then dropped into Coto via the Palomia Trail and then back into the Chiquita area via the Sawgrass Trail.

Then we headed down Ladera Ridge singletrack which was oh so beautiful and finally did Waterworks before heading back up Tijeras Creek Trail to the cars
Here's the estimated route HERE

I feel this is the best combo of nice rolling terrain, climbs, singletrack, great views, and many regroup spots and we're near eatery's for post ride libations I'm looking to maybe KeepWhatHappens or someone else to help lead the ride because I'm not too familiar w/ the trails. So volunteers would be appreciated.

Hope you can join us on this great ride.

When:
MEET TIME: 8:30AM
ROLL OUT: 9:00AM

Where:
We'll tentatively meet at Canada Vista Park CLICK HERE(skate park/softball field). But this meet location may change depending on where we want to eat afterwards.

Lastly, although it is a SS love fest. Geared riders are welcome on this ride but we're glueing your shifters

I do not know this trail. It should be fun!

**Edit: suggested gearing? I'm thinking of keeping it in the 32x21**

OK here's the situation. John (keepwhathappens) cant be our guide through chiquito ridge ST that sunday. He can however make the following Sunday 2/17/08. I think moving it to that day would be best for the ride as an experienced guide would make things that much better.

I apologize for the change of date. Plus now we can get others that had racing that Sunday

You see! That's what I'm talking about Foo. Rugby weekend rules all. Some South African/Australian/English chap must of busted your noggin' a good one when you stopped at StarBucks on the way home.

Sorry I couldn't make it on the 10th. I'd be glad to show y'all around on the 17th though.

Here's a couple ride reports from the area to whet your appetite.

Question - I was talking to flash yesterday and he said the road ride (oso)was long and really broke him.Are there other routes that would avoid a 3 mile road ride up oso?

Suggestion Maybe? (i'm unfamiliar with the route) When Gene did a version close to this he took out some parts and also did the route backward? would this make any diff? Just wondering and watching out for the noobs....

I believe this route will either start at "Friend's" or at the Park in which case does not have the road ride. "Friend's" is right at the water falls where we entered that first climb after doing the road portion on the O'Neill newbie ride. The park is right next to where most regrouped under the underpass before we hit those rollers single tracks. From the link, it looks as if they started at the park. Lots of starting points to this route. Just a question of where to eat and drink after is what decides where we start sometime.

It won't be Ladera. Nearly all chain places around those parts. I'm not sure if there is anything in RSM, a few spots in Foothill, but everything else that is original/fun would be closer to the 5 freeway.

Also, during the previous ride, there was some mention of a connector trail past the 241 toll road to avoid the Oso parkway road ride. The other option is to enter the fire road at the bottom of Oso parkway and hammer up the hill to the left of the fire road.

Traci you're more fit than Alan the road ride up Oso was about a 1 mile or so the grade wasnt bad at all and actually brought you up to climbing temp to go up the short climb up to Ladera Ridge. Alan will have no problem once he clears the cobwebs from being in winter hibernation mode. Right AL?

As for eats...didnt you guys eat at Daily's afterwards?
