Default Hurkey: Spring Challenge course Sat 1/19/08 anyone?

Is anyone interested in doing all or part of the spring challenge course (about 20 great miles) at Hurkey this weekend? Preferably Saturday... Start time of say 8 or 9am. Sunday is an option if need be. This is a really fun ride for those that have not been out there. Here is the geoladders link: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=682

I'll be working tomorrow!

Oh, did you mean 1/19 or 1/20?

Doing a suffer fest, then a shuttle ride, then the Charger game

It's a good course. We'll be racing there in May!

I have trail work on Holy Jim. Would love to try that course someday. How different is it from the 24 hr course? I did that race in Sept.

Duh? I am not too good with the calender thing I guess. Yeah I meant the 19th or 20th. Have a good weekend of riding, and a bad weekend of football!

Much of it is very similiar. There are some sections that are a little more techy but not much. If you enjoy the 24hr course you would love this...

Yeah, it varies quite a bit.

In 06 they climbed up the end of the 24 hour course, descended the last rocky fire road climb, descended the fire road down to the campground, climbed up Keen, through the meadow, and then continued on the fire road instead of turning off on the singletrack.

There's a really fun singletrack you descend, some crazy HABage, and then for Sport you continue down and finish up the course.

The expert course is perhaps the most challenging and fun race course in So. Cal.
It has technical sections, hike a bikes, and a steep and long semi-paved road climb that some people were walking last year.
Only the beginning and end is part of th 24 hour course. The rest runs through back country trails that are both beautiful and tough.
A must do, if you are into XC racing.
I wouldn't mind going there for a fun ride, but I'm busy for the next few weekends. Bummer.

Thanks. Between trail work and just being sick, I haven't had time to do much. I would love to go up and just do a "fun" ride. Perhasp after the VQ in mid/end of March.

Do you know where Hurkey Creek is? If not follow the link in the first post and you can find directions there. It is just outside of Idlywild, by lake Hemet. It's an easy drive from Temecula, you can go either the 79S or out the 74East. Which ever is closer to you. Or we can carpool if you want. What time and day works best for you? I am good with Saturday at 9:00am, let me know.
