I'm thinking we can do: 1 - 3 - 11 - 8 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 5 and then back down 5. EC said 5 was sorta climbable on the west, I've gone down 5 on the east, and it was good. Time changed to 10.

btw, i've climbed 5 to the west and east... west is 100% do-able; east is more fun coming down in my opinion. i had to air down the rear for traction last night because i would spin out too much on the technical climbs if i went onto rocks from the damp dirt. |

Are you saying back down 5, and then...dirt access road ccw around the base back to Maler? Why not just start at the north parking lot for a complete loop leaving out the roads (except 14)? (OK, you like the road # 1, it's a good warmup...). I'm thinking you've got more like three hrs there ( I did see the "tell the wife" note tho).

Up and over to "Derailleur" and down to the Carmel Valley road side, then up the short part of Miner's and down the fun part. There will be a short road ride to get back to the parking area.
Evil Chocula introduced me to that starting point. I like the climb from there. Bummer is, if we go over to the up and over, we'll miss the last bit of the climb. On a positive note, we'll also miss the "hella steep fireroad" which I didn't care for when the chowda showed me his loop. Join us Dan! Quote:

to add a little to this...
last night i did another ride there starting off at Maler Rd and riding to carmel valley rd up miner, did a couple loops, and came back to the truck via "2" which was SUPER fun. this was the first time I've been on this trail and it was something that will be added to the ride there from now on for sure! the only thing is, i wish i had pants on because i took a beating from the bushes. |
