Trailhead Meet up with other socal mountain bikers to organize group rides.

San Juan-Los Pinos loop
Calendar: Rides & Things
deja vu
high voltage rock & roll

01-12-2008
Come join the fun, so far it's me and dt riding 40+ pound freeride bikes, so expect a slow pace, thinking 5.5 to 6 hours. Meet at 7:45, be on the trail by 8. Los Pinos is a ball breaker, so expect the worst (arm-leg protection, full finger gloves, spare tubes, food, there is water at Blue Jay). Here is the route on Geoladders http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=326

(also scheduled on Geoladders)

Thumbs up

Bummer, I'll be at SRC too.

Pinos is fun, a lot like Bell. Should be a GREAT ride, sorry I'll miss it!

Darin, I've think you crashed one time to many. Pinos is only fun if you like walking your bike up and down hills while those evil shrubs reach out to tear the flesh from your bones!

We did it in the summer and it wasn't too bad. The heat was brutal, must have been close to 100, we had enough flats to keep us in the midday summer sun an hour+ longer than we wanted, a couple guys ran out of water, I walked more of the downhills on my hardtail than I'd like to admit. Besides that it wasn't too bad.

Talking Fond memories of Los Pinos - NOT!!!!

Sorry, the last time I got sucked into this was The Turkey Burn of 2 years ago. Met BGR guys at Blue Jay and rode from there up to Los Pinos trail head and down into a bush with a rock in it...ouch! Continued on bleeding down to SJT trail head and back up SJT to Blue Jay. Damn lucky I didn't break my nose. When I got home, my wife asked if I wasn't a getting a little too old to be playing in the dirt with a bloody nose.

Much safer to play on Bell Ridge these days....

Have fun and be safe!

Hey

Is there any truth to the rumor that Los Pinos has been cleared out recently?

The Warriors Society brushed it last April from top to bottom. I haven't been back since, but I doubt much has grown since. We cut it back pretty good since it doesn't get brushed often and I for one, don't look forward to doing work on it again soon . It did need some earth work at the bottom.

Really I was asking for AlisoDave's benefit. Truth is I am tempted to join but i'm not in shape for a huge ride like that with you guys. I could make it up to los pinos but the Hike-A-Bike would do me in. Unless you want to see a grown man suffering epileptic seizure style leg cramping, you should go without me.

yep, 177 feet shy of 6K even. We can HAB one section twice to just make it 6K on the money. It's only 22.5 miles, but a rough 22.5 miles for sure.

ps - spare tubes and a patch kit are mandatory on this ride!!

We did Bell the weekend before in the same temps. We really wanted to check out Bell and Pinos so we did them in the heat. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though. Brush wasn't a problem luckily.

I'll do what I can to help you slow Paul down, but I'm not sure even two of us will be enough, might need more riders.
