Big bikes a must for this ride (asking about the ride down-who cares about the ride up...pushing is pushing)???
Im on the fence for this one, cant find anyone to ride with sat (Fontucky) so i was gonna just go demo bikes at the loop but would much rather get in a good and fun ride only problem is i havent graduated to a big boy bike yet

When you guys say its a tough ride, how tough is tough exactly???

well, it's kinda subjective, but you should be able to ride up SJT from the bottom to top without even thinking about it because that's where the fun begins. Next up is a fairly unrelenting steep fireroad climb to the Trabuco Creek/Los Pinos trailhead, then endless Hike a Bike and technical descents over loose and sketchy terrain until you are screaming 'mama'.

wait a minute, is anybody still riding with me now??

absolutely not, although it might not be much fun on a 23 pound hardtail with a 72 degree head angle, running MaxxLite 310 tires. I would slap on some meaty tires to avoid flats and get some additional traction. If you have a dual suspension w/ 4 or 5 inches of travel and some tires that can take a beating you should be good.

Thanks for the heads up Deja Vu but i jus found out i have to work Sunday so all the house work has to get done on sat and a 5.5-6 hr ride doesnt really work anymore-sucks too cause it sounds like a good (by good i actually mean sufferfest) new ride with some fun down hill...i need to start riding more new trails instead of always the same few.
Oh well, maybe some other time-thanks again and you guys have fun

ride was great. 7 hours, almost 6k of climbing, good temps. i was worked! 2 of us had >40 pound bike. i do think i might like this more than bell ridge. the descents are alittle flowyer and longer. more HAB though.
