new here- San Diego area trail suggestions?

Hi all,
My wife and I are new here and are going to Temecula/Escondido/San Diego for a week. We're trying to figure out whether to bring our mntn bikes. Any suggestions on where to ride in this part of CA? We're hoping to find single track with some technical fun, but not too hideously steep or snowy/muddy. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Randy,
When are you coming down? Trail recommendations may depend on when you will be here. If it's this coming week, a lot of stuff will be too muddy.

Also that is quite a big area. Where are you staying? In each town/city? Or are you just going to be in the general vicinity?

I can take you on Miners Ridge Loop at Black Mountain later in the week. It is a nice, technical singletrack for most of the trail. There is some steep climbs the way we go. It will need to be Thursday or Friday to allow the trail to dry out a bit. This is in the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego.

Next weekend could be either Vail Lake or Hurkey Creek. Both are used used for endurance racing throughout the year.

What do you mean by "hideously" steep? Elfin is so much fun, for some people (like me).
