Default San Diego: Last minute, Lake Hodges or LPQ at 3PM today??

My schedule cleared up a bit--unexpectedly and I was thinking about a quick ride at Lake Hodges or LPQ at 3PM. Anyone interested?? Let me know ASAP. I'm in Fallbrook now and will need to leave right away.

What about Vail Lake?

I thought Lake Hodges was still closed. http://www.sdrp.org/trails.htm#piedras

I live in Temecula and was thinking about going out there soon.

The main trail from the Sunset Dr trailhead to the parking lot by the country store has been open since December 13th. It's right on the main page at SDRP.org

---NORTH SHORE LAKE HODGES TRAIL
IS OPEN
The North Shore Lake Hodges Trail has been re-opened effective 12/13/07 from Sunset Drive to Del Dios Community Park.
Click here for maps and more info about the North Shore Lake Hodges Trail. The North Shore Lake Hodges Trail is the first San Dieguito River Park trail that was closed due to fire impacts to be reopened. We appreciate your patience as River Park Rangers and Volunteer crews diligently repair the damaged trails. Our goal is to make them safe and re-open them as quickly as possible.---

I know I'm close to Temecula now, but need to head south after the ride, otherwise I would join you.

You are right Pacman. sorry about that.

I keep watching for when they are going to re-open the South side of the lake.

I will be riding out at Vail Lake this afternoon, I am trying to get a hold of a friend of mine to see if he wants to ride with me. You are welcomed to come if you would like, if I don't hear from him soon, I will be going at 3:30.

We rode all of Lake Hodges and Mule Hill and RB all last Sunday and it was a mess. I wouldn't return till everything is cleared up. So many new fence lines installed to close off the trials. RB or so called South Hodges was a ok to ride. That area came to a complete hault when you approached that first wooden bridge w/ the little stream below. 1/2 of it was burned down. If we were able to cross over RB would of been one fun to ride. )

Have a good one!!

Public service announcement:

If one is to disregard posted signage and ride closed trails which could possibly result in further damage to surrounding areas and prolonged trail closure because they pissed off some ranger with a pre-existing hard on for MTBers, They may want to think twice before posting about it. We try to keep the peace

I saw the same thing when we rode on Monday. Weird. We rode all the way out and saw it was closed and turned around and went back. It wasn't closed on the other end--no signage, no fencing and no caution tape. But, just to be safe I'm going to avoid the whole area. I do wish they would be a little bit more clear on what is closed and what isn't sometimes. Closed on one end and open on the other is pretty confusing.

As far as people riding OBVIOUSLY closed trails and then posting it, well that is just really unfortunate and not very smart. Especially when they eluded to others riding a "closed due to rain" trail a few weeks ago, when in fact the trail was open.

There were some signs and tape that were torn down and broken. Particularly by the singletrack continuing south of the boat launch area and ranger station.

I know what you mean about clarity on closures. It's kinda like dealing with the DMV. You get the shank even if they're the ones who screwed up your paperwork.

I saw that too, but that part is seperate from the other section. At least they lengthened the fence by the end of the marina road where the motorcycles were coming through. They effectively blocked that whole route.

I wish we could get a "guesstimate" of when everything else was going to open. I called and left my name and number and emailed my info to volunteer for any upcoming trail work days and I was told they have nothing planned.

How is trail access supposed to be restored when no trail work is planned? The SDRP website and the posted signs all say they are working hard to get the trails re-opened, but it doesn't instill much confidence when you are told there are no work days planned.

I'm sure they are busy, but the fires were 2 1/2 months ago and all that has been re-opened is the fire road.

well, they have to SAY they're doing something i guess. how else would they justify budgets. I dunno exactly how it works but we are ultimately guests in their house. If they wanna take forever to fix stuff, is there anything we can do to expedite even if we volunteer? apparently not from your communication with them. we are at their mercy. I don't think I've ever seen a trail catch on fire and need repair, but unfortunatley if they say keep out we have to abide because they can close stuff for any reason they want, lets not give them any additional reasons.
