We will be exploring this for our first time and would appreciate details, trail info, etc... Are there any trais off of Coal Canyon closed? I have my Franko's map as my point of reference and I see the route joins Cleveland National Forest. Can you recommend a good route? Any info is appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi teri,

I was the one to fix your break caliper

but to get to coal canyon, you ride the santa ana river bike trail to coal canyon (the first overpass on your left). Go under the freeway... proceed straight. Take the trail to the right. This will take you all the way to the top of coal, and to sierra peak (antennas) and to skyline if you continue.

Thanks for the info. Hard climb (yikes!)? We do like to do hills. Probably don't need any more information (we can see for ourselves). Sometimes it's better not knowing what's ahead when exploring new territory. Keeps things exciting.

Looking forward to trying this area. We do ride Chino Hills quite often, but have not tried the Coal Canyon area (according to the map it's part of CHSP).

Thanks Again! Hope you guys had a nice ride. We had a great ride. Only ran into one other rider the entire time.

There isnt much for trails really its just one long fire road to the reserve, you can loop it like we did or do an up and back ride. Its a long hard climb but its fun. Let us know if you decide to rde it monday me or someone else canb come along and show you around the skyline way is fun but you need almost 4 hours to enoy it up and back can be done in around 2

I will let you know if we ride on Monday. I usually need to coordinate with my friends and their spouses who do not ride. I try to work around their family commitments. As soon as I know if we are doing this ride, I will post back to this forum topic. No problem waiting. You may be waiting for us.

Hi,

We decided not to do this ride on Monday. I forgot it was New Years Eve. I don't want to get myself too tired out. We are probably going to do an easier ride through CHSP instead. We plan on trying this soon, perhaps next Saturday if it doesn't rain. Again, Thanks for the info.
