they have it for 80 bucks.

is a helmet mounted light necessary also or will this do?

10 Watts is not enough to ENJOY night time trail riding.. especially on the downhills.. 10W might be ok for slow climbing but will not reach out far enough to be effective on high speed downhills.. I recommend you look into something like the Night Rider Classic or if you got the cash step up to something like the Night Rider Moab which has the HID bulbs and LI batteries.. The NiteSun team issue rig would be good too.. When you get into HID bulbs and Lithium Ion batteries you start to get in the pricy price range... The halogens with the Nickel metal hydride batteries are lower priced and will perform quite well. Night riding is the bomb and having good lights will enhance your experience. They are a good investment for the winter months..

Default lights

ok so i have been doing some research on lights. Should I have both a helmet mounted light and a handlebar mounted light or is just one ok? I can probably afford around 200 maybe a little more for a light.

There are a couple of threads out there on this, but I only have the helmet light, and so far so good.

I only use handlebar mounted light.. the ideal situation is to have both but one or the other will be fine.. tight singletrack with lots of turns might warrent head mount.. less curves and handlebar will do just fine.. Many of the new kits come with both head and bar mounts.
