Default Time Change

Now that the time change is here, I'm going to start my afterwork rides again at Aliso Woods.

Typically ride from 5:30pm to 7:00pm 3 to 5 days during per week. Time to start the interval training and get in shape.

Lights not needed any longer. Official sunset is at 7:15 pm tonight which leaves plenty of time for a 1-1/2 hour ride.

I usually park at the Canyon Vistas gate around 5:20, and start riding by 5:30.

How do you measure an interval ? Is it one trip up Mathis ?Or is it a heart rate at load for a set time length?

TIA , Evel

No lights. The Park closes at sunset.

I do short/fast intervals to push the legs and the heart into the anaerobic threshold. Doing this once or twice per week for a month really tunes you up fast.

I have three interval spots at Aliso-Woods.

The short climb up to the Mathis Kiosk from Westridge
The short ridgeline route just before the top of Mathis from Westridge
And Cholla for the longer intervals.

I do 10 to 12 intervals with just enough rest in between for the hr to get back down to normal.

On the Cholla runs, I ride hard up Cholla, then roll down the back side (Rubber Ridges) to the bottom, the immediately start back up Cholla.

On the two short climbs, I ride up hard and immediately turn around to roll back to the bottom, the rest for about 1 minute or less; then head back up again.

It’s a pain in the butt for the first week, but gets surprisingly easy by the end of the month.

Tonight I’m just going out for a nice easy spin for fun.

mathis all the way to TOW is like a one interval workout. Several steep sections divided by flat sections that let you catch your breath. Probably not as effective as hitting one perfect interval hill over and over again, but not as boring either.

Anyway..JamR I am ready to ride afterwork with as early as tomorrow.

I'm not even gonna try and ride with you two guys like that * *I rode Aliso this morning on my Weyless 67, started at Canyon Vista, up to the top of Cholla through the neighborhood, then Westridge to Rock-it, down Rock-it, Coyote to bottom of Mathis area, back on Coyote to Cholla, then did 2 trips up Cholla and down Lynx.....that was plenty for me on that bike! Didn't see 1 other biker the whole time *

Is riding that Weyless making your legs stronger? It sounds like you had a pretty good ride. When are we riding Holy Jim to Trabuco?

I had a cool ride yesterday. Dropped in on 5 Oaks. Up Rockit, down Stairs, back up Stairs (hike a bike), down rockit then out.

Well I'm sort of use to riding a heavy bike with the BigHit, but yeah my legs are getting a bit stronger.

I'm ready for the Holy Jim to Trabuco ride anytime man, I'll just need a ride back to the trailhead.

Where is 5 Oaks at? You climbed Rock-It on the Bullit?

yea I was on the bullit. I ride that thing three times for every one ride on my blur. Anyway 5 oaks comes down from the water tank (accross the canyon from cholla) to ride it legally you need to hike a bike from the bottom where the trail meets wood canyon.

Default Aliso-Woods

Looks like a lot of riders had the same idea last night for the first after work daylight savings ride.

Had a perfect 2 hour ride up Cholla, down Lynx, up Rock-It, down and up Meadows and back to the truck with a great view of the sunset on the way.

Overall the park is in great shape, and Meadows is the best I've seen it for years.
