Trailhead Meet up with other socal mountain bikers to organize group rides.

I guess I should have read the intended purpose of this board more carefully. For the last three times I have asked for a hand in fixing up the trails only one person has stepped up and heard the call (thank You Chris). This board seems better suited to flame wars, selling old junk, or trying to dip one's wick.

Despite being authorized and qualified to develop guided rides I am washing my hands of them. I can get much more work done solo if I don't have to waste hours explaining myself to people who aren't willing to do anything but criticize.

I would hope the wind shifts next year, it would warm my heart to see people polarized towards a common noble goal. But if we cannot trust one another enough to work as a team than all hope is lost.

(for me, better?)

Happy Holidays,

Disco Claus

Are you saying that the Forest Service is now granting permission for group rides in the closed areas?

If so.....is Debra the contact to ask for permission?

You should ask her about that.

I first presented my plans to local Trail-bosses , they endorsed it with the suggestion I discuss it with Forestry service. After a brief chat we agreed the upper portion could use a little more work.

I would suggest writing out your plan in pencil and taking at least a week to erase and reconsider options. I have done so and believe "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail". My plan is to work for a greater benefit than my own wants, I respect the wisdom of the authorities in their closures. I will not at anytime disrespect the specified boundaries without prior consent for both safety and legal implications. With that said, all are welcome on this ride who choose to follow the rules.

Rule #1. Inclement weather/red flag conditions cancel ride

Rule #2. All participants must sign in and be assigned a number

Rule #3. All numbers will be collected after, if one is missing you will be presumed missing. If the search is fruitless and the individual is actually OK they will be banned from any future rides I choose to host.

Disco - This seems really odd to me. That an individual was granted a pass into a closed forest even if your intentions are noble.

Also, I'm curious which "tribe" endorsed your idea?

I've e-mailed Debra to see if this ride is endorsed by the forest service. I don't ever remember anyone collecting "donations" for trail work.

Odd.

If anyone lacks faith in my plans or preparation beforehand I will reserve the right to comment selectively.

That being said it was an honor to see everyone throwing in on Saturday, the mountain could use more like you Max.

Disco, as far as I've read, nobody has "busted your ball's".

We would just like some confirmation, that the ride is legit, and save everyone the cost, and embarasment, of trespassing any of the closed areas.

The public felt a $10 suggested donation to supporting non-profit trail-work to be unreasonable. Therefore this ride will only be open to those who plan to work. There are plenty of other ways to train and I wish you all the best of luck finding them. The course will be significantly different than last year so if you would like a preview by lending a hand for the route, you are most welcome.

I haven't spoke to Debra myself, but here is her contact info if anyone wants find out about it. As Wilderness/Trails Manager and District Volunteer Coordinator, she should have the answer. I will call her tomorrow.

Disco, we just want to be sure that this will not open another "can of worms". This forum has been crawling with lots of worms lately.

So, here is the response I received from Debra this evening;

Subject:Out of office From:"Debra R Clarke" drclarke@fs.fed.us

Date:Sun, 16 Dec 2007 22:02:19 -0800

I will be out of the office starting 12/15/2007 and will not return
until
12/22/2007.

I will be out on the forest every day for the next few weeks working
projects with the BAER Team, managing the Rec Crew and working with
Volunteers. I will respond as soon as I am able.

So, I guess we'll get more info from you Gene, if you can get a hold of her.

I'm not trying to open any can of worm's back up. This just seemed a little odd to me.

If anyone had bothered to ask me directly in the first place perhaps you could gotten some accurate information instead of wasting time wondering as to accuracy of your presumptions.

you seem to be somewhat ambiguos with your answers...which is probably why so many people are asking so many questions.

OK, I apologize for my semantics, but I fail to see all this talk DOING anything positive for the trail.

So.....are you going to answer the question? It seems like it would be pretty easy to be a little more "up front" in your answers?

Just heard from Chris Vargas of The Warriors Society and he says Disco has neither his/The Warriors Society or the USFS permission to sanction this event.

My guess is this thread will be yanked soon.
