Default Los Penasquitos Night Ride, 12/18 @ 7:30

LPQ at 7:30 Tues night for ~1.5 hr ride.
Powerline up, Rim/Mesa roller coaster goodness, Tunnels to Hooterville to Cobbles.

Park by the softball fields off Black Mountain Rd in the far back. It will be cold. Dress appropriately. If you want to make it interesting, dress inappropriately.

Ride is on. We will cancel/stop when the drops actually start to fall. I have canceled rides in the past when rain was forecasted and not a drop fell. So, use your own discretion. I won't be at a computer again, so I will be unable to post an actual "RIDE CANCELED" post.

Does anyone have an idea how long in miles and time this ride is? Gotta make sure my lights are good enough for this.

As is listed in the description, about 90 minutes, give or take. We'll also cover around 13 miles.

Hope you can make it.

You guys are going to have some nice conditions for Tuesday. Rode there today, and Tunnels was near perfect. Like ebasil said in another thread though, be careful coming down Cobbles, the new water bars kind of jump out at you. Have fun!

Ya, I was on my (newly) rigid SS and those things sucked.

Yeah...the water bars pretty much kill any satisfying flow that Cobbles had. The edge will come off of them as they are worn down a bit though.

I get off work at 6PM in Dana Point, I might be able to make it as long as I don't have to stay late.

Well... now that I know they're there (as opposed to finding out at speed in the dark last time) there will be some good opportunity for flight time.

Looks like we might get a bit more rain on Tuesday. Wouldn't that be a shame--I could remain thawed out for more than a couple days

Sweet. Check for ride status before you head down. Rain is forecasted.

I hope it doesn't rain. I haven't ridden in awhile.

I waited until Saturday to hit them... banged my pedal climbing over two of them. Our lack of armoring this time shows bike and horse damage, so they'll smooth down even faster than last time. We also passed over cobbling the exit drains and there's some cutting taking place from even the recent rains... proves they work but that we're going to have to go back and slow down the water leaving the drains.

As for descending: FLOW DENIED was how it worked for me. I think a few runs and I'll get it down, but the "stutter effect" in the one section where the 3 berms are real close to one another is going to be where my learning curve is.

Why use waterbars then? Granted, I've had all of 1 experience with erosion control, but the scallops and knicks provided a good erosion control (or so we hope) without being as pronounced as a waterbar.
