Default San Clemente Singletracks-Cancelled Due to Mud

This ride has been cancelled/postponed due to wet conditions.

Ride will likely be re-scheduled for same time/same place December 26th. Stay tuned!

When:
Friday, December 21st
9:00am Meet time
9:15am Ride time (Sharp)

Where:
San Clemente Singletracks

Meet at Steed Park lower lot at the blue mark on this map:

Route:
95% singletrack Intermediate flowing narrow, off-camber singletrack unlike anything else in Orange County. Challenging but loads of fun. I'm not an expert on the area but have ridden over twenty times so know some good routes.

This is an approximate/possible route.

Plan on a two hour moderately-paced ride of about 11-12 miles and 1600’ of elevation gain.
This is not a newbie ride but we will be re-grouping from time to time.

More Info:
We’ll be stopping for pizza and beer at Pizza Port afterward. Here’s a map from the ride location to Pizza Port

As some of you know, this is a sweet ride and a good time to play hooky. John will lead and I'll sweep so the pace will be steady. Plus we're doing Pizza Port after!

DeeZee, How is the trail condition right now? It's supposed to rain Tues. Hopefully the new cut areas that needed a little rain got pack down some. If you're off Friday, you should join us.

However there is some thick mud in the lower areas.

Thinking about planning / posting a ride for Monday night due to the rain forcast.

Talked with Reed at the Silverado Trail work today and he said he had filled in some of the muddy areas (low spots) with dirt. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Even if it rains on Tuesday, by Friday conditions should be perfect.

we rode there last wednesday, 4 days after a rain, and it was still really soft, muddy in places, completely caked up our tires, especially along No tools and Holeshot. The more sun-exposed trails were ok though. It was nice to see the place turning green.Point is, depending on how much rain we get on Tues, (and we may get some on Thurs) Friday may be a slop-fest.

Did you catch that dude on the mini-bike? Those dudes should not be riding out there. Those a-holes are ruining the trails for the rest of us.

Anyone who know the number(s) we should call down there to report these idiots please do so.

That's the last thing we need!!! A bunch of people calling and to alert anyone to this area and making it a concern on someones radar.
Deal with the moto guys one on one. I'm a firm beliver in breaking the spark plug wire off. (I'm also a moto guy and can't stand people riding where I mountain bike).
It's amazing how this place went un-noticed for 10+ years until the Warriors started having weekend rides here.
Don't you guys have a whole mountain to worry about up on Saddleback?

That's kind of selfish of you since San Clemente singletracks is contained in a State Park. It's these increase of trail users that might help keep the toll road from going through and keep SCST open for us to ride.

I can only recall one Warriors ride ever sanctioned here so laying blame here is misplaced.

If you want to blame someone (and you shouldn't really) blame Geoladders and STR for spreading the word to the masses. But I say the more the merrier!

I can pull up many postings ridng this trail in the past few months and I can bet that the most of the postings weren't from Warriors.

Whoa……..all the single tracks were illegal just a few months ago until the park service adopted them over night to legitimize their use. I would guess that right now only about 30% of the trails are legal for anything with two wheels.

I wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite and only have bicycles breaking the law………..so I invited a few friends down for an un-sanctioned fun ride.

The more the merrier..........right?!

The last I heard is the the toll road is stalled. The state does not want the toll road to go through. The current plan violates California Coastal Commission law. The Transportation Corridor Gestapo even offered up $100 million of mitigation (hush) money, which the state wisely turned down.

Deep down I am a realist and realize it will probably go through someday but I prefer to be optimistic and fight the man in a delaying battle. They said the El Toro airport would go through no matter what - but guess what the little man won that battle!
