Default Trailwork, Silverado Trail aka Silverado Motorway

OK STR, here is your chance to help restore one of the trails used as a firebreak during the recent fires and get a first hand look. I will be out there along with the WS. Here is the info. I know everyone is planning their weekend rides so I wanted to get this out. I'll updated this when I get more info. Hope to see a good showing, but be prepared for some serious work.

From the US Forest Service:

The public's help is needed to rehabilitate the Silverado Trail. (aka Silverado Motorway).

Please join us in assisting the U.S. Forest Service in the
rehabilitation of the Silverado Trail on Saturday, December 15th.

The trail was graded and widened during the recent fires to act as a firebreak; we need to restore it back to a single track multi-use trail and install grade stabilizers and water bars to prevent erosion.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical shape, and register at the work site located at the forest gate end of Silverado Canyon Road.

Work will begin at 8:00 and end at 2:00 with a free lunch provided. Tools will also be provided but you must supply gloves as well as water and snacks for during the work.

Pre-registration recommended so we have enough tools.

RSVP directly to Chris with the Warriors Society to be kept in the loop and so he knows the head count for lunch.

Thanks Gene,
I wasn't sure it was open to non-members.
Sweet.
I'm looking forward to some aching bones and muscles.

Yeah, we will park at the bottom and work up. Some, I'm sure, will start from the top, but those will be guys and gals that Chris from the WS is familiar with. Lunch will be provided as well so be sure to register.

This public announcement was sent to Sherry by Bob Loeffler and we're trying to find out how all of this will be coordinated. It would be good to see canyon residents and MTBkers working side by side to restore the trails. I called Debra about parking cause there will be lots of cars there and I'm sure not all will have adventure passes.

Organize a shuttle/carpool from the Christmas tree farm. Set a specific meet time, problem solved. Late folks walk--Democracy at its finest!

First off I will state that what I have to say is selfish and in my own self interest. I understand that the trail needs help to make it thru the rainy season. I do trail maintance 4-5 times a year. I like to ride the trails I worked on. Besides what I already mentioned why would I work on a trail that I can not ride? If STR's help gets this trail back on line I am willing to help. I have heard the forest being closed anywhere from 1-5 years...I may be retired and living in Arizona by then. There are trails in the San Gabs like the Rim Trail that could be opened up and is a excellent trail. But comparing San Gabriel Trails to Santa Anas Trails really isn't fair.

I would like to see this trail opened again as much as anyone, it was the first local trail I would hit after the rain.

Now that I think about it.... Why work on a trail the public can't access. There are plenty of local trails that need some love that we all can ride. Sounds more like help is needed to fix a race corse that we can't ride.

And Dean, it's not selfish at all.

Pat I see your point. But if it is not fixed now. It may not be there when the forest reopens if we get a heavy storm or 2.

Glad you see it. I think the forest should be open. No more fire danger and things need fixing. We can all to trail work even without it being organized.

Default RSVP to Warriors Society

Gene and others...I have checked with Chris Vargas of The Warriors Society and yes he has given the OK to officially invite the public now.

He asked that those who want to help out RSVP directly to Chris with the Warriors Society to be kept in the loop and so he knows the head count for lunch.

Gene maybe you can put this info in the top header of this thread?

I'm confused.....is the trailwork put on by the WS or by the Forest Service? The email that was forwarded around said that the FS was asking for the publics help and to RSVP to Debra?

All I know is I got the initial invite from a Silverado resident that would not have gotten the info from the WS. I think it was then posted by the WS and so on.

We had originally planned to go out and start working on the Motorway with permission from the foresty dept.

The forestry dept is the one who turned it into a public event. Word is that there is also going to be a cleanup of the creek happening on the same day. So some of the WS members may be helping out the canyon residents on the creek instead of the Motorway.

This is not about if we can ride there now or later or because it's part of the course. The info was put out by Bob Loeffler to Sherry and the Forest Services is asking for public help so I posted it.

The WS was going out there to do work on Trabuco and Holy Jim the same weekend and now it's been changed to the Motorway. Now that there is call for volunteers, The WS is just trying to organize this effort or there will be lots of people standing around not knowing what to do. Also food will be provided and they need to know how much to bring.

It is my understanding that the Silverado residents will be out there as well and they are asking help to clean up the creek.

You can either RSVP to Debra or to Chris Vargas or even let Bob Loeffler know, but I did not want to put out his email without his permission.

Why does it matter who got the message first and who is asking for the help??...the trail needs help, the canyon needs help, the residents need help to clean the creek....if you want to give something this holiday season this seems like a good cause for me.
