Default to go or not to go ??????

My buddy and I are interested in going. We have a concern. I watched the video of Art Smith Trail on http://www.mtbbill.com/videos/ArtSmith-MTBR.wmv . It seems pretty sketchy in spots. How many of you walk some of the more difficult sections? We both ride quite a bit, including recently Cannell up in Kern. How does this compare? I just want to make sure that we aren't over our heads and hold up the group.

If you can do Cannell without problems then you should be fine. There is some steep exposure in a few parts that you'll need to be ok with. Just make sure you are not running standard tubes. Stans, Slime Tubes or tire liners are an absolute must. Some have had luck running double ply tires and downhill tubes but I don't think I'd want to pedal that weight for 30 miles. No shame in walking tech stuff but you guys need to be able to ride the moderate stuff.

Hey! Um, I'm looking at going out the evening before and grabing a hotel room and maybe doing a dinner with a friend out there.

Nail the route down, it you have doubts about yourself, do some more prep rides to keep the regroups to a minimum.
Yeah, but you ain't human!

If the other Craig wants to change it I guess I'm ok with that. 7:00 am meet at the Art Smith trailhead seems ok to me though. That should hopefully put us up top ~7:30 am. If we can't finish this ride in 8-9 hours we've got problems.

If nothing changes, let's meet at Carls 5:30 am

Default Human after all

Ahem. I'm out. I heeding my own advice here as I wish to state I have doubt that I can make this with my current health and fitness.

A cold that I had tried to work through the last couple of weekends has relapsed, lungs currently feel like being out when there is smog and the body temp is at 99.

So carry on bretheren, I look forward to the rr, kinda... Because I'll be bummed that I missed this challenging ride with fun folk, and if there is no snow the conditions ought to be great!

Have a great ride guys!!

Are you looking to do the orginal Art Smith route for the lower 1/3rd or the new route that was completed a little over a year ago? The new route is tame in comparision to the orginal route. Most of my video features the orginal route.

Just converted the tires, and all looks good. Switching to "Yes." Yes!

Any carpools coming together? I can drive if need be, and have room for another bike and its rider.

Yes, I shall deminish greatly in those eyes here who have not bared witness to the glory of my commitment to the freeride sect. I shall go upon the sacred couch and meditate this weekend and ponder my next rising so as to put to rest the imbalance my words and actions have caused.
