Default Sycamore Canyon (Riverside) 9:00 a.m.

Some time ago I posted some pics of Sycamore Canyon (Riverside) and there was some interest in a group ride...

Riverside local scene: Sycamore Canyon

....so we're gonna meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 9th at the corner of Canyon Crest and Central Ave. in front of the Bank of America parking lot in the Canyon Crest area of Riverside.

Directions: if coming from OC take 91 East to 215/60 towards Moreno Valley get off on central go right for about 1 1/2 mile to Central, BofA is on the corner of Central/Canyon Crest)

This ride involves a lot of strenuous up and down XC riding but we will be making lots of stops to re-group....the ride also has a few steep drops, water crossings, rock gardens, but fortunately no exposure.

Plan on 10-12 STRENUOUS miles for a loop around the park....if your not hurting too bad afterwards we can do it again backwards after having some lunch

Default Riverside folk?

I ride these trails several times a week. I didn't know anyone else was around the Riverside area besides Nancy and Rodger.

It was great to see you on the SD ride yesterday. We might be able to make this one. I'll let you know. What are the conditions like after a rainstorm?

The majority of the "high" trails (ridges and rock slabs) are on DG (decomposed granite) so they drain the water really well after it rains...the "low" trails also have a good mix of DG but the creek crossings tend to get muddy .......

As far as I know, the city does not close the park after it rains..........

I didn't ride Saturday, but the conditions were good on Sunday. I've ridden out there in a light rain and conditions were fine. I think that the trails will be fine to ride on and that riding them when wet won't cause any problems.

I hope you and Roger can make it out. We can try to find some rocks to jump off of for you. I know a couple and maybe Oz knows more.

...we are dividing the ride into two parts: first a 10 mile loop that should take no more than 2 hrs that will bring us back to the start.....

after a break, we are gonna ride in the opposite direction.....

if you only do the 1st half, you will have plenty of time to have lunch and then go to the Path sale

I was told we meet at the regular place, over by the BofA on the corner of Central & Canyon Crest.

yes....we are meeting at the BofA in the shopping area because 1) We are not starting our ride from the dirt area on Central and 2) Parking your car at the BofA lot is safer than in the dirt lot!

Darn, just started raining here in HB...I assume if it continues, the ride is off? Frack!

This area can handle quite a bit of rain. I've road there in the rain and it didn't even slow us down. No trail damge at all.

I've never ridden in rain and I like new adventures so I'll be there (with plenty of band aids) unless I see something to the contrary. I'll be leaving around 745 tomorrow morning so if it changes, please let me know. Thanks

Yea, the trails do fine with rain, so there shouldn't be any problems and traction will be tops.

The BofA is a great place to meet and there's plenty of parking.

See you in the A.M.

So, do my doctor's orders to stay off the bike still apply if I ride in another county?? I don't think so.

Didn't I hear something about a SS 29'er? There are going to be several out there already and I think it would be a good time to introduce yours to the rest of us.

I'm no doctor, but there will be one on the ride and I know that he doesn't stay off his bike when he should. Of course, he's an ear, nose throat guy so unless that's your problem he might not be much help

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Just saw that it's geared. No matter, it's enough that it's got the big wheels. The terrain is rolling and fun with a fair number of rockstacles to stop and play on/with.

Come on out.
