Del Cerro User Education Ride: Friday 11/23/07; 9:30 AM

Hey all. Anyone who has been following the future of the Palos Verdes Del Cerro trails in this thread:

PV: The axe is falling.....

and wants to do something about it; we will be meeting at the Del Cerro gate at 9:30 AM on Friday 11/23/07 to do a user education ride. There is no set route or length. The idea is to do various loops on the site to increase our chances of interacting positively with other cyclists, hikers and equestrians.

The goal is to ride the area and talk to all users about the trail situation with the conservancy and hand out fliers to other riders and all trail users in general. We want to especially aim at educating fellow cyclists as to the importance of riding with respect for the habitat and other users.

A few of us will be doing some filming to show the trail planning committee that the more advanced trails can be ridden sensibly with the safety of other trail users and the habitat in mind.

A trail bike and XC-ish gear is probably the most appropriate for this ride. DH bikes and full-face helmets seem to raise the hackles of other trail users and shut them down to dialoge. Bringing a bag to pick up trash and litter would also be a good idea.

Even if you can't ride due to injury, your presence at the gate talking to users as they enter would be appreciated!
