Default Let's Just Ride....Ride

OK, Let's just go ride!

Some can use it as training, some can use it as fun, and some of us can use it to add more scrapes to our already scraped up selfs.

On Sunday.......

How about riding Chiquita!
This ain't no shuttle run. We'll park at the Candy Store, and pedal up Ortega to Blue Jay, then drop down the trail and ride!

Let's meet at 9:00am, be rolling by 9:30.

This will be all day ride, at an all day pace. There's no rush.

Who's in?

Default Chiquita

Maxwell, how long (time/distance) is the climb up to BJay (how long will it take for someone to comment on Bjay... My guess is not long). I have never done chiquita and would love to join you but the climb up Ortega might kill me!!

Sorry to derail, Crash.

genusmtbkr5 [11-20-2007 11:05 AM] - Wow Darin, that is a ride. Sorry, I'm going to be camping at the Tara Lanes ride on Fri until Sat and on Sun, pre-riding Daley for the up coming newbie ride.
Gene, are you riding with Justin and I?? I've got a ride set up for Sunday morning.

Back on topic - you climb up Ortega?! Are you insane?! That road is crazy. I haven't paid attention to the width of it through there, but I think due to the lower speed limit it probably isn't that bad. How long of a ride is it?

From the Candy Store to the back enterence of Blue Jay Ortega isn't all that bad. The road is wide except for the first straight away. How else do you do Chiquita without shuttling????!

JOx2 - this ride will surely test your skills. As long as you are ok with walking some sections. I am not sure how much you have progressed since we rode, but this is a BIG STEP up from Santa Rosa.

I think the distance from the candy store to the SJT trail head is about 4 miles or so. Not sure what the total distance would be for the loop but I do know this: always scope the stunt before you do it on Chiquita. I came off a roller too far right of the exit ramp and ended up with a broken helmet and shoulder because I didn't check it out myself before I hit it. Lesson learned.

OK, I completely forgot about the 24hrs ride at the Loop for Tara, so the Saturday Chiquito ride has been moved to Sunday at 9am.

The Sunday East Horsethief ride has been CANCELED.

Hope to see you on Sunday.

I've never come in from that direction, so I can't say for sure. I know you'll take the Ortega Hwy to the parking lot accross the street from the Candy Store.

Riding the road up isn't really too bad.
Riding up to earn the down, is awlways GOOD!

Easy for me to offer advice since I can't make it but it's one of my favorites.

Personally, I think it's much more fun to start at the Candy Store and ride the San Juan Loop trail to Chiquito and up to San Juan trail. Left to Viejo Tie back to Chiquito and down. To finish either climb back to the lot from Upper San Juan campground or climb up the San Juan loop trail. The thought of riding on Ortega hwy is more scary to me than hitting the stunts on Chiquito.

Either way, have fun out there.

I'd love to go, but can't do it tomorrow. I just saw Chiquita for the first time on Thanksgiving day. Four of us OTB'ers did an out and back from the Candy Store...sweet trail!

While there was lots of on-and-off the bike on the climb, coming back down it was quite the reward.

Yeah, it's a great trail!

I'm actually gonna ride my hardtail tomorrow just to change things up a bit.

See you guy's in the morning!
