i usually take in around 24oz/hour...but yeah, i would carry two bottles of sports drink. when you hit aid#2 refill one of your empties with water and pop a gel.

i think i was out there for around 2.5 hours and it was hot!!

if there is anything that i learned out there this last weekend...that heat will sneak up on you!

This may sound retarded but I would love to race the SuperD. However, two things. I have never raced superD, so I am a little sketchy on the way it works. Second, my Id is without a fork at this time, would it be crazy for me to try this on my new MCR? This may well be its maiden voyage if I can't pick it up until Saturday... I know the majority of the course pretty good and can't remember anything to crazy...

Well, schleppp, the old adage goes, "never change anything right before a race". That being said, I have ignored this adage many times before.

If you've never done a super D, don't sweat it! I have seen you ride and I know you are capable of doing it. It will be fun for you!! Usually it's a mass start of some sort. It depends on how much singletrack v. doubletrack the course has to determine where you can pass. However, the cool thing about super D is that there are usually all sorts of racers out there...from XC boi types to DHers. It's kinda like the red-headed stepchild of racing...kinda different but very cool.

As for the MCR...hmmm...you'll probably be okay but keep in mind things like shifting/cable stretch/etc that could be an issue. For a relatively short super D, I don't think it's going to be a huge deal. Just be ok with the fact that a mechanical could be a possibility (and really, when is it never?) and you'll be fine.

I was also going to say, I'd be more than happy to lend you my 575 but I think a small is probably too small.

Steph, it sounds great. Very exciting to say the least.

I am not to worried about the "never change anything right before a race" adage. I have done absolutly nothing to prepare therefore it is impossible for me to change anything! So I don't have to worry about that!

Thanks for the offer on the Yeti, but it is probably to small and I would hate to have to fix it if I broke something. I am all out of money now!! MCR = $0.0

Well, maybe I will give it a go... We will see.

Hey schleppp! M blong Gaua here to add my 2cents to what SDYeti so adequately described of the Super D. We inadvertently rode most of it last time we were in Idyllwild and I just finished studying the route map. No indication as to whether this is a mass start(Le Manns style where all racers line up and then race on foot to thier bikes and start racing) or timed individual starts(one racer out of the gate every certain number of seconds) yet but even if it is a mass start there will be at least a mile or so of fire road right off the start for passing and really speeding along. Then there is a great section of very tight singletrack turns followed by more singletrack with fewer turns followed by some very fast fire roads and trails to the finish. The profile indicates almost no climbing so if you think you can speed downhill and on a few flats for just over 5 miles then you will love this course!
Sounds like your new bike will be good. If you avoid the few rocks and control your speed in the corners this may be the best opportunity yet to bond with your new ride.

Man Blong, thanks for the input, sounds resonable... If I can make it work, as far as the getting the bike and all, I will probably give it a go!

30mi route says "Open Men"? Do you need a license to race Open Men?

Kevin - You'd probably be fine on the new bike. I'd say definitely get out and ride it once, even if it's just an afternoon ride on Saturday that is quick and easy.

It is about a 5-6mi mostly downhill course. From May Valley down to a singletrack, then Exfoliator, Coyote Run, etc.

A bigger bike might be more comfortable, but not necessary.

You will be racing in Open men, which means Expert, Sport, and Beginner racers. So, expect there to be some guys faster than you, and some guys slower than you. Go into looking to have some fun with the number plate on and you'll be fine!

Well, I just got off the phone with Tani and it looks like my bike will probably NOT be done, so no race for me. I am supposed to call Him tomorrow and he will give me a better idea. We will see, but I am not holding my breath. It sounded like they are just slammed with work. Maybe next time!
