a couple weather reports i've seen say 70% of rain, with showers on friday night as well.

i'm just going to assume it's going to rain and be a whole different experience.

So, how do you prepare for something like this for xc? it's gonna be nuts

It's said rain all weekend, but like 45 miles ~ south it hasn't poured or anything. Unless it changes it's been cloudy for the past 2.5 days, with spots of sprinkles. Very very little of any precipitation during the day. Anyone closer can confirm?

Either way.. depending on temp I'm planning on wearing knickers, woolies base layer s/s, jersey, and then either my canari or whatever vest (I don't think it's waterproof, but might help) or if it's cold a windbreaker jacket (no release of heat, but I'll be dry). Maybe a shower cap.

It's good training, and a fun experience. If you find out racing isn't your thing, no worries! At least you tried it. The course is fun out there. Good crowd.

If you race beginner XC I think our buddy Melissa will be racing it again. So, at least you'd have a bit of competition.

If you wanted the mileage race Sport with Steph and I! You don't have to go out to win either way, but go out to do your best and learn about racing.

Nice Allison. Come on Willie!

It's good to get out there and experience what your heart will be going through for the beginning of the CC. My heart goes through the roof at the start of a race. I have to focus on breathing once I start. Then I have to remember I'm out there to have fun. Normally it takes me a lap or so to figure it out. Come on Willie!!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I think I'll give it a try. Most likely Beginner. Andy - I'm sure I'll have a breathing problem as well, and probably a stomach wanting to throw up problem as well. Oh well, should be fun!

I have been doing yoga and part of it is the meditation. If you can learn to stay calm and bring your focus inward, it will help. Sounds crazy, maybe, but it worked for me. Normally, I'd be a ball of nerves at the start line but I was pretty good in terms of nervousness two weeks ago.

Rain is nothing that a little umbrella can't take care of.

That's high speed....er', too much drag.

XC Rain Tip: Using bike oil with Teflon on your down tube and BB area will prevent sand from accumulating in clumps or mud from sticking.

That depends on which way the wind is blowing.

Have you ever used Pam on your tires? I used to use that back in my BMX days to keep mud from sticking to the tires. Be careful not to get it on your brake rotors.

Funny, we used to use Pledge on show cars in indoor events. It leaves a good shine while hiding lots of stuff.

Uh, well...I never thought of using Pam on my tires I use a stiff bristle brush on the BMX tires. MTB tread gets a stick.

The stick nor the brush come in a can or smell like butter/pine, but they gets the job done!

I was going to post that same series, but for some reason I didn't think it would go over well.

It's used in a lot of discussion that it is now supposedly against the law to ride a bike in Japan while carrying an umbrella. I'll find out in March.
